Today is the 18th Anniversary of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. It also marks 8 years since Sonic Adventure 2. Saying that makes me feel really, really old, because Sonic Adventure 2 doesn't feel like it came out that long ago.
But yeah. Sonic's 18 years old! It kind of snuck up on me, I guess. Sonic fans usually quietly celebrate this day, but I had completely spaced it out until I saw a post about it on NeoGAF. Since I'd started uploading MP3s I've made to Youtube, I decided to go through and upload an MP3 for the four major Sega Genesis Sonic games. Please, partake in the remastered Sonic music goodness with me:

It's worth re-iterating, but these were made from MIDIs freely available on the internet. I can't compose or sequence worth crap (never had enough motivation to learn), but I like tinkering with soundfonts and music in general, so I've gotten in to the habit of taking MIDIs of videogame music and running them through FL Studio to make them sound nicer. I have a Youtube Playlist where I'll be uploading my favorites.
And while we're on the subject of Youtube and Sonic the Hedgehog, if you haven't already watched it, Gametap's Sonic Retrospective is a good watch. Covers a great deal of what went on behind the scenes for Sonic's rise to fame during the era of the Sega Genesis - and it respectfully cuts off right before everything goes sour. Definitely worth watching, especially on today of all days.
