    The 'Ultimate' Disappointment

To be blunt, this collection is not worth £30. Hell, it's not even worth £1.

This collection is a waste of opportunity wrapped up in Blackbone's now staple "Bukake-o-vision" ("Scale", as they laughingly advertise it) , a User Front end that looked at all the screen space HD offered and went "No, Sod that, we're making this as if the player was playing it on a protable B&W TV", an inability to use custom soundtracks (As a side, is it really that hard to isolate the SFX in Megadrive emulation, is it? The emulators available in the shadier parts of the net seem to do it just fine. Your saying Sega don't have the code right there? Huh) and a lack of net code in spite of the fact that Backbone could of easily copy the code from their own XBLA Vintage net code and pasted into this.

But that would take far too much effort.

And effort is the key word here, folks.

The first thing that should be obvious to anyone using this collection is that Sonic 3 and Knuckles (For those playing at home, that's the "Full" version of Sonic 3 that is made by having Sonic 3 sit in Sonic and Knuckles' lock-on slot) is missing from this collection.
The exact reason given in regards to S3 + K not being included in this collection was that they would have to drop the bonus Non-Megadrive games, of which the only three of note are Phantasy Star 1 (Which is a slow as hell Dragon Quest IN SPACE! nowadays) Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier, to support the Lock On games (S3+K, Knuckles in Sonic 2 and Blue Sphere).

Congrats, reader, because Backbone are too lazy to get three roms and put them on a DVD (Which is probably being hilariously underused too, a few videos, 50 some roms and the emulator to play it probably don't make 7GB of disk space) you get a badly emulated  version of Space Harrier (That you have to unlock via the just plain bad Super Thunder Blade) aren't you lucky?

Someone who was relay looking to have the ultimate version of the games on offer here are probably better serviced getting the games they specificity want via XBLA and VC.

This collection is a lot of fun! 0

I've got to admit, this collection of Sega games has brought me a lot of fun (and achievements) in the last few days. I rented this off of GameFly but I moved over to the "Keep" option very quickly as it only cost me $12.16 after tax and my $5 discount (yes GameFly is awesome sometimes).   I myself have never owned a Sega Genesis, I was a Nintendo Kid who grew up with a SNES and a GameBoy. My Genesis gaming was set to Sonic 1 and 2, MIchael Jackson's Moonwalker s...

Secret Short Review 004- Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection 0

SONIC'S ULTIMATE GENESIS COLLECTION  + Great compilation of older classics   + Fantastic Price Point. + All of the ports are exact copies of their older selves...   - ...for better or worse. Most glitches and such are fully intact.  - Some of the game choices are a bit odd... do people actually remember Decap Attack or E-SWAT?  Ah, the 16-bit era. I admit, my childhood wasn't exactly filled with the typical SEGA vs. Nintendo console war that people have experienced, as we were a family that...
