Just saw this on Game Informer
Sony has apparently patented a method that allows them to interrupt actual gameplay for several seconds to show you an add. Whether they actually plan on doing anything with it is unclear for now. However, there are (paper thin, thread bare) rumours that Sony will announce a deal with OnLive at this year's E3, possibly allowing them to offer free (trial) versions of their games to customers that have ads in them. A practice that is very commonplace in the Android Marketplace for example.

The idea seems incredibly offensive at first glance, but I really doubt that they would dare put this in $60 retail games. If they do, we are all fucked.
