I was wondering if there was going to be any community here on GB for SC5. I would like to get an idea of how many people on here on GB are going to buy SC5 for sure, and would be interested in playing online with other people. There hasn't been tons of talk here up to this point so I'm just trying to figure out if that means disinterest, or perhaps just a lack of material to talk about.

--So who here is interested in SC5

General rule of Giant Bomb, like other places, is that people don't seem to talk about any fighting game that doesn't have a Capcom logo (GB community has a hardon in particular for SF4). So I'm not surprised to see little to no talk.

Personally I'm still skeptical, the last two SC games haven't been that great. 3 was terrible and 4 had balance issues that the community took a bit too long to solve (IMO), I'm going into 5 with an open mind but money's too tight for me to drop $60 on a game I'm iffy (at best) on. I definitley want to check it out, but I don't want to pay full price of admission to do so.

And regarding online, don't get your hopes up, Namco doesn't have a good track record with their fighting games and online play (nor does any other developer besides Arksys, but even then its no replacement for offline).

Not at all. I think Soul Calibur is both boring to watch and play, with no charm. I also don't really like 3D fighting games, despite that I'm going to give Tekken Tag 2 a try.

So for me it's SF x Tekken, which will be superb, and Tekken Tag 2 for fighting games this year. Going to try the Persona 4 fighting game when I get the chance too.

Capcom netcode has been good for SFIV and MvC3. It's pretty decent, the biggest problem is that it's still online, so hiccups are going to happen. A lot of people have pretty poor Internet still.

In Japan a lot of the top players play online a lot, the small landmass and godlike connections mean the netcode can shine there.

God no. Everything they have shown of that game leads me to believe they just reskinned a bunch of models and released a new game. The engine looks identical to the last game.

super excited

Not true. We get boners for Mortal Kombat as well.

I am more excited about SC5 than I was a few months ago. I thought they really beefed up and fixed the character creator system. And I think Ezio fits that universe more than a stupid Star Wars.

I haven't really liked a SC game since 2, but I'll give it a fair shot.

I'm curious about it.

Capcom != Namco Bandai, that was the point! Capcom's netcode isn't perfect, but it was leagues better at launch day in SF4 and MvC3 than Tekken 6 or SC4 until they finally patched the damn thing.

To @TechHits: I'm interested but not enough to spend $60 on it. I hope you're more interested in this game than the post made you sound if you're starting a topic for it.

#10 Posted by TechHits (1365 posts) -

Interesting, nearly half of the replies to the thread were talking about how much they don't want to play the game. Not normally a good sign, but we'll see what happens when the game comes out I guess.

Meh, SC4 was a major disappointment.

#12 Posted by ImmortalSaiyan (4673 posts) -

I will probably get Final Fantasy 13-2 instead.

#13 Posted by Wes899 (2106 posts) -

Definitely not. Have not enjoyed the series since 2.

#14 Posted by BisonHero (6047 posts) -

Nope. Haven't played one since Soul Calibur II. That was enough for me.

#15 Posted by pornstorestiffi (4908 posts) -

short answer; No, long answer NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, NO, No, no.

#16 Posted by phrali (646 posts) -

no. i'm surprised they're still making these games. i don't understand what their market is. i've never seen SC on anyone on my friend's list history.

What an odd thing to say, I'm not totally sure how to respond to that.

GET HYPEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I can't wait for this game, it looks sooo much better than SC4.

#19 Posted by StingerMK2 (386 posts) -

iv been a big fan of the series for years, didnt play 3 (no PS2), then 4 was disappointing, but im gonna buy this one, i think they've still got it in them to make a good game, iv never been a fan of character creators in fighting games, but i will try my best with it, i want to like it!

FFXIII2 is out too, and i dug the hell out of that demo, so i dunno if ill get it straight off the bat, im pretty sure there are more games out in the next 2 months that im interested in, than there was for the whole of last year

#20 Posted by Vanek (381 posts) -

I can't deny I'm actually sort of interested, but I'm not committing until I know everything about the game. At this point some of the characters haven't been announced and it's still possible for them to fuck things up DLC wise.

#21 Posted by Mahonay (828 posts) -

Gets a gigantic "Meh"from me. They don't seem very interested in innovating on the series at all.

#22 Posted by Jasta (2217 posts) -

Not really. 3D fighters aren't my thing.

#23 Posted by Hailinel (23671 posts) -

I am. It's almost guaranteed that I'll enjoy it more than Soul Calibur IV simply because of there being no Star Wars characters this time. Fighting Starkiller in the arcade ladder was a pain in the ass.

No excitement here. Not only does it look identical to 4, but it lacks the roster of its predecessors.

#25 Posted by M_33 (527 posts) -

I just pre-ordered the ''special'' version without even knowing what I'm getting from it. So yeah, HYPE!

#26 Posted by AngelN7 (2970 posts) -

Not trying to be another Negative Nancy but for some reason nothing I've seen of this game does anything for me, this is coming out soon too? why then does it look just like SCIV? I thought they were saying at E3 they were re-using assests but recent trailers make the game look just like SCIV , personally Im more exited for DOA5 , Street fighter X Tekken and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

#27 Posted by Sauson (560 posts) -

The lack of my go to characters from previous SC games is upsetting but I'm excited neither the less.

I keep trying to play some SCIV online for prep but the only people who still play are the ones who've been there since day one so if anyone who has it for 360 wants to play my GT is R E D E E M 3 R

#28 Posted by 71Ranchero (2668 posts) -

Not much interest from me but then again, I didn't care for SF4 either. Wake me up when Last Blade 3 comes out.

I may still get it though, just like I did with SF4.

#29 Posted by kashif1 (1428 posts) -

Not enough to buy right away. I'm gonna wait and see

#30 Posted by MightyDuck (1490 posts) -

Can't say I'm too excited for it. I've always been more of a Tekken guy to be honest. Well, that and Mortal Kombat.

#31 Posted by JJOR64 (18881 posts) -

I'll be picking up the game despite being complete dog shit at 3D fighters. I've had fun with the previous ones, especially 2.

#32 Posted by Zembosis (100 posts) -

Really looking forward to it. May not be able to get it on release day, but I'll get it eventually.

I still think SC3 was the best in the series, although I did enjoy 4. Thankfully no Star Wars crossover this time.

#33 Posted by TooWalrus (13127 posts) -

I'll play it eventually, but there happens to be two other weird Japanese games coming out on the same day.

#34 Posted by AxleBro (796 posts) -

well theyre making it fast and more offensive... but they made new characters and got rid of... kilik... and put in a blond dude with yosukes voice screaming the word "justice!" and telling you to "SHUT UP!" ...

did i mention they made is faster and more offensive game with blockstrings that work?

i'm pretty hype.

#35 Posted by StarvingGamer (7906 posts) -

It's weird but I've never approached the SC games with my standard fighting game mentality of HYPE.

That being said, I am looking forward to it (especially create-a-character) and am willing to give online play a try with anyone other GB'ers that get the game. I'm pretty terrible though.

#36 Posted by countinhallways (632 posts) -

Everything I have actually seen of the game makes me quite excited for it yes.

It has been quite some time since I last put any serious time into a 3d-fighter and I am looking forward to doing so (I hope). Worst case scenario it will be some fun to create obnoxious looking characters to go online and best people up with. In an obnoxious manner of course.

#37 Edited by skrutop (3615 posts) -

No, I'm not interested. I thought SC2 was pretty good, but I lost interest in the series after SC3. While the fighting was good, and the new characters were interesting, the overall game was very poorly designed and uninteresting.

#38 Posted by razkazz (169 posts) -

I can't wait for SC5, though my main interest in the series is the character creation these days. I've had the urge to make new characters for a while but I rage-traded my copy of SC4 in a couple years ago when my save got corrupted and I lost all of mine.

#39 Posted by Superkenon (1349 posts) -

Surprised so many people who don't give a lick of interest are perusing these boards. Heh.

Anyway, I'm one of those guys who thinks the series peaked at II, but I've still had enough fun with the games since to play them as they come. I'm excited to give V a try, even though I don't expect to be completely floored by it or anything.

#40 Posted by mazik765 (2315 posts) -

I like the SC universe, so I'll pick it up.

#41 Posted by scarace360 (4828 posts) -

fuck no.

#42 Posted by Soapy86 (2619 posts) -

Mildly excited. The only previous Soul Calibur game I enjoyed was the first one, but I've been feeling like I should give the series another chance.

#43 Posted by IBurningStar (2160 posts) -

I might get it. I might. I haven't seen anything to really sell me on it yet, but I like the series as a whole and continue to give it chances to get back in my good graces. The first SC might be my favorite fighting game ever, and I liked the others well enough. None of the sequels have really pulled me in, but they are still fun. I might buy it if reviews give me enough reason to believe it is better than IV, which I was really underwhelmed with.

#44 Posted by Evilsbane (4516 posts) -

Could care less once you start feeling like you have to throw Darth Vader and Yoda into your game that has Nothing to do with those characters tonally just fucking give up.

#45 Posted by BrockNRolla (1702 posts) -

No interest. Mortal Kombat is about the only fighting game I find even remotely interesting. I can appreciate watching a match every now and then, but mastering fighting mechanics using characters with comically oversized anatomy isn't something that strikes my fancy.

#46 Edited by WinterSnowblind (7613 posts) -

I loved the original few games (up till 2) but since then they've been massively disappointing, I've seen nothing from 5 that would make me think this will be a return to form.

Axing most of my favourite characters hasn't helped.

#47 Posted by Aetheldod (3494 posts) -

Not really , I liked SCIV but never bean that much of a fan of the series.... Im rather llooking foward for SkullGirls and SF X Tekken

#48 Posted by jakob187 (21640 posts) -

I have never really cared for Soul Calibur as a series. However, my friend showed me footage from SC5, and I have to say that I'm intrigued by it. There seems to be a snappiness and quickness to it that wasn't there before. I think it has to do with all the additional dashing added to sidesteps and such.

But... you play Mortal Kombat. Wha?

Is there still a character creator? Is Tira still in it? Yes? Then I am excited enough to buy it.
