I've never played anything like it. 1

Sound Shapes, one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in gaming in a while. It's nice too, seeing the long wait Vita owners have for A-list games such as LittleBigPlanet and PlayStation All Stars. It's like Patapon crossed with LittleBigPlanet, minimalistic art crossed with Mr. Game and Watch, chocolate and peanut butter. These, my friends, are high compliments.Sound Shapes is a brilliant-- underline that-- *brilliant* concept that works beautifully, and perfectly uses the Vita's touch scree...

Let Me Shape Some Sounds 1

So, ever since this game was announced I've been a little weary of it. Everyone talked about how great it was and how it really got them interested in what could come out on the Vita. The thing is, all of those people were right. This is a fantastic game. It is simple, and fun, and is completely worth the $15. The controls are a little frustrating at first, but that is true for a lot of games. After an hour or so with it I found myself able to play through the campaign no problem. The platforming...

    Sound Shapes: Grammy Worthy 2

Soundtracks are often overlooked in the games of today. Developers often polish their dramatic title themes to a fine point, but tend to leave their in-game soundtracks lacking. To which point they're usually lost to the explosions occurring in the foreground until we tune out and forget there was ever one in the first place. Sound Shapes turns this reality around and takes us on a head-bobbing journey that will remain in our memories as a hum rather than a picture.Welcome to the Jungle: The Gam...

A great, quirky addition to your generative music game collection 0

Sound Shapes is one of those fairly rare music games that, instead of having the player recreate music directly a la Guitar Hero, has the player doing something completely different while intertwining the audio throughout the experience. Meshing the audio so intricately with the visuals and gameplay results in an intensely engaging tour de force for the senses. Games like Rez HD, Everyday Shooter, and Audiosurf are great examples of this phenomenon in practice.Sound Shapes takes that formula and...

Simplicity, Perhaps To A Fault 0

Sound Shapes is many things. It's simple, it's beautiful, it's musical, and it's Fifteen US dollars. Now it only needed to be two of those things but the others are along for the ride as well.Sound Shapes is a 2D platformer with a nice twist in that you actually help create the music. Yes, you heard me right. Scattered throughout levels you will constantly find little circles that represent music notes. The more you hit, the more complete the soundtrack to your platforming adventure. The game doe...

    Five Word Review 0

Full-length reviews present an off-putting challenge for me. I labor over word, sentence, and grammatical choices to the point of exhaustion. These five-word reviews are my solace; I hope you appreciate the brevity.SoothingGroovySingularMoodyPleasing...

    Review: Sound Shapes 0

Some folks may remember Everyday Shooter and the big splash it made for PlayStation Network in the Fall of 2007, when PSN was starved for creative, original downloadable titles. Everyday Shooter was an extremely successful and popular hit considering the fact that it was made by pretty much one person, Jonathan Mak. Although Everyday Shooter was a dual joystick shooter akin to Geometry Wars, it set itself apart by incorporating gameplay and music in unique ways. Sound Shapes, the latest PSN game...
