I do not know what Ubisoft is thinking but despite a successful classification the new South Park game will be censored in Australia.

Despite earning the nation's new R 18+ rating, the game will still suffer from some censorship.

Ubisoft have confirmed to Player Attack that its upcoming South Park RPG: South Park: The Stick of Truth will be censored for its release in Australia next March, despite receiving an R 18+ rating. At this stage, we are not entirely sure what has been cut, but the Ubisoft spokesperson said that it will only be a "slightly modified version".

So the game got through the process and then Ubisoft still decides to cut content? Why? Why do you even need a classification if its all pointless?....

No the Rating will not change. That is what's so strange about it.

Wasn't there mention of a scene where aliens anally probe Cartman? Im going to guess that is the offending content. Cause I believe Saints Row 4 hilariously enough was censored for the same thing in Australia.

Australia deserves to have some problems. On top of the fact that the Australians live in a land full of the world's deadliest creatures, it's pretty much a tropical paradise. They've got a low crime rate, sexy women, kangaroos, a great accent, and a version of Bigfoot.

One day, Australia will be a free country.

I jest, of course. Still if it is that anal probe thing, it IS very odd considering the recent Saints Row 4 precedent.

I think the implication here is that they weren't being forced to cut content, unlike Volition was. Instead, Ubisoft, after their game already made classification, admitted that content would be cut regardless. Unless, of course, the cut content is what allowed them to get classification in the first place.

I did a short article on the mess that happened back when Saints Row IV got refused classification. The whole system is a fucking joke.

Who gives a shit about Yowies, Bunyips son.

This... is stupid. I mean I buy all my games on PC, using US keys on the cheap so it's of zero consequence to me but it's still stupid.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but what's the best way to get an uncensored version here in Aus? My options are PC or 360. Import the PC-DVD version from the UK?

Buy a digital US version from the US (Amazon or so) than while activating your key use a VPN service like hola to redeem your key on steam.

You seem to be well versed in circumventing regional censorship. Are you German, by any chance? :P

@heavyplay: Just checked and only the console version are censored in Uk. So if you take the PC version you should be fine.

Since I'm on iPad I can't hyperlink, but here's the source I read:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-03-04-south-park-videos-reveal-censored-content

    End of second paragraph.

    @treetrunk:

To my knowledge, two scenes got censored. One was an alien anal probing scene (similar to what got censored in Saints Row 4), and another has to do with abortion. No real big miss in my opinion, and instead we get an image of a crying koala while text explains what got censored. Really is kind of strange that this still occurs with an R 18+ rating, but I think that a part of it has to do with how Australia, for some reason or another, gets lobbed in together with Europe for film/game releases. So far no really significant things have gotten censored, so the argument against the censoring is more based on principle than anything else (doesn't make it any less valid though).

@demoskinos: That scene was at least cut in the German version of the game.
