Dreadnoughts kinetic barriers in a single shot. It has a massive element zero core which is capable of generating Mass effect fields that are powerful enough to land a ship of that size on a planet. Through out the known galaxy, the only ships that are capable of landing on planets are ships that are the size of Frigates of smaller. For the majority of the game it was unknown who constructed Sovereign; the prevailing opinion was that it was constructed by the sentient Machine race, the geth. However, according to Sovereign himself (itself?), the Reapers simply "are". Later on in the game we learn that Sovereign has the power to indoctrinate organics who have been in his company. It is attacked by the human Arcturus fleet and the final killing blow is a torpedo from the Normandy that punctures Sovereign from bow to bow and causes a massive explosion.
