Spectraball
Spectraball is a marble platformer with some puzzle elements. Basically, you’re a marble and you have to roll around to get to the finish line. There are several worlds split up into multiple stages. Each stage must be completed within a time limit, though you have infinite lives and there are checkpoints along the way to alleviate some of the frustration.
There are plenty of moving platforms, bridges, falling rocks, giant leaps and narrow ledges between you and victory. While the game had some control and graphical slow-down issues, initially, the developer has ironed out most of those problems making the game enjoyably frustrating rather than unfairly torturous. The game also touts PhysX technology, meaning some of the obstacles must be overcome by breaking through them or pushing them over.
Spectraball has leaderboards for every stage and various items to be unlocked, including some marbles with unique powers and a couple mini-games, which you unlock using points you earned by playing the main game. One thing to note is that you must complete an entire world in one sitting. If you get through three out of four levels in a world and then exit, the next time you enter that world you will restart from the first level. You must complete a world before you can move on to the next world. Luckily, most of the levels are short and can be completed quickly even with a few mistakes.
Ultimately, if you like playing games for points, high scores and achievements, then Spectraball is a good choice. The game controls well and looks beautiful. The soundtrack is also very enjoyable. Spectraball can be purchased for $10 on Steam.
