It's a surprisingly great game concidering it's source material.

A lot of the previous SpongeBob games have been a little sub-par. Not now it seems like they've finally gotten it right.. You start out in SpongeBob's house and from there you find out that Mr. Krabs has hired you to find Golden Spatulas by doing various tasks given to you by the citizens of Bikini Bottom. After this you are introduced to the world of Bikini Bottom and this is were you walk around to the various levels in the game. The area outside SpongeBob's house acts as a HUB and you walk around and use your Golden Spatulas you got to open up more levels and boss fights. You get to play as SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy. Each one has there different uses and plays differently giving the game some variety. In fact the whole game has a lot of variety and the levels never become stale or boring. The levels themselves are straightforward and you rarely ever branch off the path. The earlier levels are a little short but as the game progresses they become longer giving the game some much needed length. Graphically the game looks good. While the game isn't pushing polygons it gets the job done. There are some nice detailed character models and while the game isn't cel-shaded like most games going for the cartoon look it does look like the cartoon. Some things such as SpongeBob's eyes looks pixelated and some things in the game look blocky or out of place. But for the most part the game looks good.

The games characters are all voiced by the same actors from the show with a few exeptions. For some reason Mr. Krabs and Mermaidman aren't voiced by the same people from the show. Whoever voiced Mr. Krabs in the game did do a good job at mimiking his voice but you can tell it's not the same person. Mermaidman on the other hand, while acting the same as he does in the show, sounds nothing like the character on the cartoon and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Luckily there is little interaction with him in the game. But the game does have some decent voice acting and any fan of the show will love the humor and acting.

The game will run you around 10 to 12 hours your first time through. Getting the 75 Golden Spatulas needed to finish the game is a very easy task but getting all of the spatulas is another story. This will take an excess of 20 hours to do but it's doubtful you'll even want to do this because your not really rewarded for getting all of them and boredom will ensue before you get do.

I had a great time playing this game. SpongeBob fans young and old will absolutely go fanatic for it. It's what we've all been waiting for and it's very surprising that it's so good. Because now it's so cheap I do recommend a purchase or at least a rental. While the game can be claimed as a half-baked Super Mario 64 clone, chances are you won't really care. I liked it and I highly recommend it to any platformer or SpongeBob fan out there.
