Btw, I just fired up Spore today to play it on the
hard difficulty setting. Man, I was totally wrong
about the loss of Spore licenses you get with
each game purchase.
The old theory was each time you install the
product, it counts down from the 5 total licenses
that you get with the game.
Well EA/Maxis has produced a deauthorization program.
So if you want to recover one of your 5 installed
licenses, simply login to the PC & run the deauthorization
program, followed by uninstalling the game. If you
can't run a deauth program, say the hdd crashed &
you have no backup, you can contact their Tech
Support & usually if you give them a license of the
new hardware you're purchasing for a replacement
they'll give you any lost licenses back to you. So
this seems fair to me.
I went ahead & searched their Tech Support site to
make sure something was available. Here is a FAQ
on the de-authorization tool & where to get it:
http://help.spore.com/cgi-bin/easpore.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20876&p_created=1228840436&p_sid=4ay9_rbk&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=19743 p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD04NSw4NSZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9JnBfcHY9JnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1kZWF1dGg*&p_li=&p_topview=1
So now DRM is sort of a non-issue for Spore
at this point. I read some other forum posts that
stated one person had installed the product in
more than 5 locations, what he found out is that
he could only run 5 Spores at any one time, so
you would have to log one out & then another could
be activated, or something like that.
