You make a good argument. Regardless of platform, Square hasn't shown us much from its high profile franchises. They are very quickly becoming a niche company which is totally insane considering they put out all the Final Fantasy games. Their original IPs aren't being marketed very well but I guess a lot of that could be because they're not very good. The company really seems to be in need of a re-focusing of priorites something like what EA did this year.

They need a FF7 remake to rake in some heavy cash.

God, I hope they don't do this.

If there's one thing I hate more than adaptations it's remakes...

But I agree that they have got to stop their remakes... it was fun for a while, but if they put half the effort they did in FF 4 remake in a new Ip, they wouldn't have as nearly as many flaws.

No, screw that.
How about work on Final Fantasy 13 and finish it?  Next Final Fantasy after that should be FF14, not 7.

Square-Enix hasn't made a good game since it was just ENIX.
Dragon Warrior 3 was the shit.

How could you hate a remake of FF7...?

I agree that Square Enix is killing itself with all the remakes of old games, but an FFVII remake is a bit different. They've been remaking stuff like FFIV on DS because the technology for the handheld market just got to the point where it's advanced enough to handle the game. FFVII's remake would effectively make it a totally different game when you consider that they would have to do voice overs, actual cutscenes instead of avatars with speech bubbles, and a revamped world map, just to name a few.

Well, if you consider they'd remake the whole graphical part, the battle systems, dialogues, etc. Then in every single aspect it'll be a new game. The only thing that would reamain the same is the story. So I don't see the point. If they're going to redo the whole thing, I'd rather they'd just stick a new story into it.

Also, rarely remakes are any good. The only exception I can think of is Resident Evil Remake. We'd just end up thinking of the aspects that were better in the original and how they screwed up in the remake. It's like watching the same movie, but this time with special effects. And who cares about special effects?

I want FF VII and Chrono Trigger on the PSN!

...anything they have done lately has been poor besides Crisis Core and The World Ends With You; both for portables. Hopefully FFXIII will be EPIC.

Square has sucked ever since they merged with Enix.  It is no longer the same company.  I don't see how some people can't see that.  Enix ruined my former favorite company, and almost all their releases after FFX were complete trash.  I want a game as great as Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, FFT, Secret of Mana, Chrono Cross, and FF1-10.  I doubt we'll ever see that happen again with Square-ENIX.

this doesnt surprise me at all, level 5 and atlus make better rpg's these days.

I'm sure final fantasy 13 will be good tho.

Squeenix is an IDIOT for making The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery, for 360 or not, they could've made a MUCH better game than that crap.

Although, The World Ends With You deserves to sell MILLIONS so I can't stay mad at them for too long.

Everyone who is blaming the 360 for Square-Enix's poor performance needs to take a look at reality.  Companies change systems all the time, Square did move from Nintendo to Sony after all, and I decided to get with the times and buy a Playstation.  After Sony had a lame PS3 launch, I decided to put my bets on the 360, especially since there were some RPGs announced early on for the system.  The PS3 price at launch was just insane.  I am thinking about getting one now however for some exclusives.  Square-Enix has been doing bad because of the merger.  When Square and Enix merged, it canned much of the old staff responsible for their great, highly innovative titles in the past.  Without Sakaguchi-san, the FF series just wasn't the same.  FFXII felt like a partially complete FF because the producer left midway through the project, and the guy in charge of the horrible Saga series took over the project.  I'm willing to be that he was the main guy responsible for that disappointment.

the issue is that thier simply not putting enough time and polish into those games in the case of the last remnant and infinate undiscovery.

Dragon Quest X will eliminate all money problems they have.

#66 Posted by vidiot (2737 posts) -

Square's failings and problems are multiple and do not seem to stem from a single issue. Whether it was their quick adoption of a western game engine with little understanding on how to utilize it effectively, to their reliance on ports and remakes from Matrix, (The actual guys who made FFIII/FFIV DS.) to a lack of simple time and polish regarding their products Square's recent problems are entirely their own.

It also doesn't help that I feel they treat their fan-base with a level of arrogance and out right confusion that reminds me of how a game company would operate ten years ago. Being a long time Square fan, their recent decisions/practices have disturbed me.

It will be interesting to see if their profits will jump back up with DQIX.

No. It just will. It will sell a million copies on launch day in Japan.

Maybe if they stopped focusing on making DS games and re-makes of classics for the DS... wait, they sell alright. nvm then :O

Well maybe on launch, but unless it's as good as it's predecessors, then the sales might wane quickly.

I think its hilarious when corporations fail !!!!  =) But im expecting better games from the lost odysey creators than square anyway.

#72 Posted by Systech (4078 posts) -

Well it's another year without Final Fantasy 13, so it is expected.

#73 Posted by SSbabel (1141 posts) -

I'm just waiting for when FF13 comes out on 360 and PS3, booyah its gonna sell lot hotcakes and boost square enix sales to a new level.

#74 Posted by godemperor (32 posts) -

I am really worried for FF13, cos all of square enix "next-gen" games have been pretty much crap. I think the people at square are getting arrogant, because they are the biggest RPG maker in the world, i really hope the leap to "next-gen" for FF would be as smooth and great as MGS's.

#75 Posted by VictorDeLeon (43 posts) -

I won't be sorry for them, they sure have taken Microsoft's dirty money and betrayed Sony, let's see : FFXIII - maybe 500 million $, Last remnant, Infinite undiscovery, Star ocean - 250M each, that's a total of 1.2 billion but of course these numbers won't appear anywhere
