    The deceptive advertising, unfair and undisclosed business practices, and concealment concern, among others:

    i. Licensing of the online games software disguised as a sale;
    ii. Monthly fees ("fees") to play the online games;
    iii. Penalties for late payment of the fees;
    iv. Interest charges for late payment of the fees;
    v. Charges while the online game account is suspended;
    vi. Termination of the right to use the online games for late payment of the fees;
    vii. User restrictions and conditions related to the online games;
    viii. Termination of game data for payment of the fees.

    Well, if I'm not mistaken, it's the late fees that were the woman's main problem. I'm pretty sure in most mmo's, the inability to pay for the next month usually just results in a cancellation but in this case they continued to charge her and ask for late fees as well. Granted, she should have read the details on the game's policies but is pretty low down to hide information like that from the consumer, especially if it's info that goes against the norm.

    Typical Square Enix bullshit.

    For bad practices.  Look between the lines.  There are already monthly fees for playing the game in addition to late payments for not paying them on time, on top of that, interest charged for those late fees.  This is also occurring while they can't play the game.  Your not allowed to charge people for services they are not using.

    It isn't something that is against the norm.  There are certain business practices that aren't allowed.  You can only charge those fees if they are lending money out to people.  Square Enix is not a bank or a credit card company and they are not lending money out to people.  It doesn't matter what you wright into contracts, you can't override the laws.

    Wow, this really floored me... I had no idea Square Enix was up to such shenanigans with FFXI. During my time with it, I heard of no such issues, but then I never missed a payment, and when I did, I just stopped playing for good. If this is all true, this was/is an inexcusably slimy move on Square Enix's part.
