SSX

Game » consists of 6 releases. First released on Feb 28, 2012

The sixth entry in the Snowboard Super X series that allows players to ride down real world mountains in dangerous weather conditions.

Hated the SSX announcement trailer? This might help.

It seems like the majority of people were completely turned off by the SSX trailer that was shown back at the VGA's. As a long-time SSX fan, I wasn't super excited by it, but I was willing to wait and see. The more that comes out about it, the more I like it. This is still EA Canada, the same people that did the games you loved. And from you can see in this video, it's alot of the same actual people at the helm.

Looking good, can't wait. I knew this was going to be one of those "let's wait and see" type of situations. Everyone who dismissed the game based on the trailer was judging it way to early. I've got high expectations now, and I'm actually optimistic, can't wait to play it.

Eh, people forget that SSX3 had the whole "survive the mountains" type of deal with every peak.

The first trailer released just looked liked an HDfied final mountain peak in SSX3.

Also, they've dropped the "Deadly Descents" subtitle.

New concept art shows some hints at some of the crazy stuff we loved about the previous games.

@Marino: Great link man, thanks.

I've always kinda been suspicious of that debut trailer. Part of me couldn't help but wonder if they did that on purpose to get people saying WTF -  nothing gets the internet buzzing quite like a "THEY FORGOT THEIR ROOTS!!" story.

But I digress, I'm totally ready for a great new snowboarding games and SSX had delivered as much as any.

...I also can't help but get a little excited when hockey and snowboarding games are made by Canadians :)

I'm excited and I know Sean Coonce is fucking stoked.

No, it was more or less that they emphasized the whole new gameplay mode, which apparently is (or was) called Deadly Descents, and kinda sorta forgot to provide any context.

I zoned out when I heard the guy say "The awesome power of mother-nature" but am generally pretty excited for this. SSX tricky is one of my favourite games of all time :DD

I'm just saying that forgetting to provide context may have served to pique interests more than a standard, expected trailer would've.

Just speculating of course.

Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Maybe it's just me being cynical, but it seems to me that they took a lot of stuff back to the drawing board after the very negative feedback that the announcement trailer brought about.  There is far more color in the stuff they are showing now.

I remember playing the hell out of the first games back in the day. I really hope this is as good as those.

Awesome, it's been forever since I've played an awesome snowboarding game.

I'm optimistic (mostly because I just want a new SSX game). No doubt we will see more at E3.

FUCKING AGREED!  Dumbass title.  At the same time, I believe there was a guy in the video that specifically said he had done work on "SSX 4", which I'm assuming they consider On Tour.  That game was fucking horrific.

Honestly, as a longtime fan of the franchise, all they need to do is make SSX3 in HD with better physics and more shit to do.  That's all.  End of story.  I'll be beyond goddamn satisfied for just that.

This video did nothing for me but show a ton of concept art.  There was similarly kooky concept art for SSX On Tour and SSX Blur.  Both sucked.  I remain on the fence until they actually show gameplay.

I thought the write-up for SSX in EGM made the game seem really awesome.  Can't wait to see how it turns out.

#19 Posted by Marino (3459 posts) - 2 years, 1 month ago
@jakob187 Well at least we agree that 3 is the pinnacle of the series. I never understood the blind love of Tricky that the majority of people seem to have. Tricky was basically just a special edition of the first game.

@Marino: I saw this stuff the other day and breathed (word?) a huge sigh of relief. Looks like a lot of the original guys who built Tricky and SSX3 are working on this project -- and it really looks like they're headed in a great direction.

I am getting very excited for this game. Whaddya think -- will it drop this holiday season?

totally weird that we went from a full SSX modern warfare CG trailer to some classic SSX looking concept part and a character render.

seems to me that they are redoing the art after the negative response from the first trailer.   I would have expected some gameplay or at least something in engine in that making of video but if they are redoing everything to look less dudebro then that would explain why.

@coonce: As far as a release date, I don't know. The other SSX games always came out in Oct/Nov. But Skate seems to have done pretty well in that Q1 territory, so maybe EA is thinking of dropping SSX in that slot at the end of January and avoid all the other massive games in the Fall.

The title is an improvement, but until I see Eddie I'm not giving them one good goddamn inch.

Totally agree although Elise is also pretty good

Brodi was always my dude, actually, but I feel like including Eddie would really set the bar high for dumb characters again.

According to Joystiq it's due out in January 2012:  http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/13/ssx-to-descend-in-january-2012/

Also gametrailers has the second part of that video: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/making-ssx-ssx-deadly/712695
Despite all my initial bitching about the direction this game was going, I am more than happy to admit I was wrong and am getting properly excited for this game.

Joystiq also had a bunch of new images:

Please tell me all the characters won't be in those fucking snow suits and masks the entire time.

There is no point in having different characters if they all look the same.

#33 Posted by MrKlorox (11081 posts) - 2 years, 1 month ago

Never saw the first trailer, but the article in a recent EGM sold me. I still think they should have dropped the SSX name.

To me, SSX means whimsical. This game does not, and should not be.

It sounds like the outfits are going to be customisable and offer different attributes, much like an RPG.

This is definitely looking up after the first trailer. That one left me in a raging, foul mood.

Huh. Well, hopefully that's only for the campaign mode and they'll let you have normal clothes (read: normal for SSX characters) in single events with no penalty.

This is EXACTLY what I want to hear from these guys. Seems like they're really passionate about it, and I love that!

I'm pretty sure I am the best SSX Tricky player ever!

January 2012 is so far away. I need more jiggly orange 'fros doing silly "flying squirrel" tricks in my life.

And Moby. Lots and lots of Moby.
