In the stairs in my house I only take two leaps though, so about 12.

Ascending or Descending? This is an important distinction.

@Canteu: I suppose that's a valid concern, but most definitely ascending. Would going downstairs be considered a stride-by-stride process? I don't even know...

@IAmNotBatman: Well I'm 2 on the up, 1 on the down. More than 1 on the down just seems like suicide!

And I guess you don't really stride going down. I leave my left foot back and lead with my right, else I will die or something.

Unless I'm with people or in public, I'm almost always two steps/stride on the way down. Much quicker that way.

I do doubles because of my time working for UPS and delivering packages to the top floors of apartments. It was generally much faster to take the stairs for single items and when you've got to deliver a truck full of QVC crap across three towns, you're not going to fuck around with the elevator.
