Dave is gonna be pissed. I'll miss STALKER games. They were kinda janky at times, but they are such atmospheric and fun survival games.

As a person who owns and has enjoyed them quite a bit (Haven't played the second yet but finished SoC and am enjoying CoP so far) this is quite saddening. These games are so much fun to play, and have some of the best atmosphere. They're never downright scary, but so eery that it creeps me out a ton when I play them at times.

I just woke up and my day is ruined. I would pay $70 for a PC STALKER any day of the week.

I only managed to swallow STALKER earlier this year after years of struggling to enjoy it, and I simply was addicted to it and beat it in two weeks, overwhelmed by how brilliant and unique that video game is. 
 
I was looking forward to STALKER 2 being my first day-1 Stalker purchase just to say thank you to these guys. This fucking blows.

This sucks ass. These guys deserve better. After what I could only imagine being very tough development years, STALKER got praise and success and STALKER 2 should have had a better treatment.

@GunslingerPanda: It was started by a news agency. The person unrelated to the company was someone who was purported to have later confirmed that initial report. Also, all of GSC's denials have been removed from Twitter, and now pretty much every Eastern European game outlet/developer is confirming it, so it's not looking good.

Still going to wait until we get official word from GSC before calling this "confirmed," however.

How did I never hear about the first STALKER game??? It sounds fantastic!!!!

Man, this sucks. I'm about four hours in to the first game and it seems pretty cool so far.

Damn, I'm actually sad since I loved the STALKER franchise. I bought all the games through Steam and I remember when Call of Pripyat came out the developers had a $10 loyalty discount to anyone who owned the previous games. I'm sure this story will lead to the PC pirating debate but I think that the problem was that the STALKER games appealed to a small portion of people and the developers weren't backed by a billion dollar company. The modding community really got behind the STALKER franchise and the developers borrowed some ideas from the mods and that was such a great thing to see. Anyways, if STALKER 2 never comes out I'll always be grateful for all the countless hours lost in abandoned buildings just listening to the dogs howling.

As much as I have trouble really getting into Stalker, I can see why it's so highly regarded. It sucks if this rumor is true.

Wow if this is true. Someone must have been a complete dipshit to screw up what they had going on. Stalker games sell relatively well and mostly on digital distribution where the margins are higher.

Terrible news. I really enjoyed the first game.

A dude from a section of 1C deeply in cooperation with GSC said that there are problems with finding anyone in Ukraine to finish the game.

Who can tackle this game? This is the real problem in Ukraine, the only other dev is 4A Games, but they're concentrating on Metro: Last Light, plus they have problems with Grigorovich. And it's all going to go bad if you hire Poles or Bulgarians.

I did this as well, I bought all the American versions, then bought all the german/UK metal versions, and combined the best of both. I was going to do the same for the next one. I guess my dream will die now...

This is catastrophic!! I just finished CoP a week ago and I can't get enough! CRAP! I got SoC when it came out (you know, on disc) and didn't like it so shelved it until about 3 weeks ago when I installed it with a fan mod and COULD. NOT. STOP. PLAYING. I was so excited to find out that there was a second one in the works, and less than a week later -- this! What the hell is going RIGHT these days?

Sad news :( I was really looking forward to STALKER 2 and seeing how they would iterate on the STALKER formula. I guess I still have CoP to look forward too as I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Hopefully someone will pick this one up from the ashes but I doubt it.

Stalker was my personal favorite franchise alongside Mortal Kombat which I consider my childhood/overall favorite. There was something so special about them, that they never managed to drown under their own weird Easter European-ness. I fucking love those games and I'm making it known because I feel like GSC Gameworld deserves it.
