I'm pumped about this game... I loved the first once I got past the bugs and horrible optimization.
Now I've got a new (ish) PC ready to rock... its gona be a great fall for shooters with rpg elements.
Clear Sky, Fallout 3... really I dont need to go any further than that!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
Game » consists of 2 releases. Released Sep 15, 2008
A prequel to the open-world first-person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Set a year before the events of the first game, Clear Sky follows a new character, Scar, through the Zone.
Anyone else excited?
It looks very promising, I never got a chance to play the first stalker, but I heard a ton of good things about it(besides some technical problems aside) and I've seen some stuff for Clear Sky and it looks really good... just gotta upgrade my PC first, which will happen sometime in the next half a year or so, then I'll pick it up for sure.
I don't know about STALKER on consoles. One of its main draws is sucking you into the game world, one thing that never really does it for me on consoles. Whenever I'm playing a console game I've always got that thought in the back of my mind, like 'quit playing video games' or something.
It would certainly boost sales though. Game World GSC has said STALKER was pirated to no ends and they didn't make a lot of money off it.
"Oh shit take that back. They were actually good reviews haha. Some liar on the GS forums said they got bad reviews. Fucker. What bad reviews?

Damn CD keys always causin' trouble! Actually I sorta want the EU version too. Then I can get my hands on that awesome CE. You get a friggin' zippo that says STALKER. That's too cool. Even though I don't smoke. And I've never needed a lighter in my life... but it's still damn cool! The banadana is cool too. But I don't wear bandanas...
Loved SoC and can't wait to play Clear Sky.
Hopefully whatever problems they've had won't affect the Steam release which is still listed for this weekend.
The reviews are a bit over what stalker SoC got it seems..and that game to me was absolutely amazing, even with all the bugs...fuck whatever it gets review wise though, I've seen enough of it, and even if I hadn't, more STALKER is definitely a good thing, buy first day hands down :)
I've had my copy (European release) for a day now and am not happy at all. I have encountered far too many bugs that have lead me to restart far too many times (I can't even start a new game without it crashing now). I'm going to have to wait til the second patch is released for non-Russian versions of the game.
Once you get passed the horrific bugs in this game it is actually great fun, though you make get lucky and not encounter any gltiches, as some people claim.
I am very exited for this game. I mean it's like STALKER, but with better graphics and supposedly less bugs, I'm in.

I've been starting to get really worried. A lot of user reviews have been coming in saying the bug problem is so major the game is nigh unplayable. In fact, I read one person saying that the main story quest bugged out for him. If this is true I'm going to be pretty dissapointed. And I have a feeling that Clear Sky might be on the top of a lot of people's This Years Most Dissapointing list. Only 5 days to go I guess and I'll get to find out myself... but it sounds like I'll be waiting for another 3 patches before I can truly have the Stalker experience I wanted.
UPDATE: I got the game working yesterday thanks to a user created script fix (you can find it on the GSC forums, they aren't loading at the moment so I can't find the link). Not to mention the second patch is rumoured to be out on the 15th (when the US version is out). So all should be fine.
Anyway the game is excellent, I love the faction wars, upgradeable weapons and now finding artifacts is a real challenge.
Second Update: I found the link for the fix I mentioned here... http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr2&thm_page=1&thm_id=16080&page=4&sec_id=18
I'm torn on this. Since I only buy around 4 games a year, I'm not sure if I want to buy this one. There are a bunch of other games that have yet to come out, Left 4 Dead, Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, Call of Duty: World at War.
I was hoping it would be a massive improvement over the original (which had great atmosphere and graphics but the gameplay was boring and tedious at times) but the reviews indicate its more of the same with the same bugs.
Here is my rundown of the series:
+ Great realistic atmosphere
+ Best graphics ever
+ Attention to detail in environments
+ Good AI
- Not enough combat, most of the game spent talking with NPCs or traveling from one place to another
- Too many technical things like food and jamming
- Gets boring when you stay in the same area for a while
- Can be extremely frustrating
- Initially confusing interface
- Overall, I got bored because there wasn't enough combat
I think this game would have been best off like Crysis - a game thats open ended but with linear progression.
