SO EXCITED

For those that haven't seen it: http://starcitizen.robertsspaceindustries.com/

Intro to the video made me laugh a little, but the engine itself looks FANTASTIC. Also, I love Freelancer and Wing Commander.

I'm currently trying to figure out my pledge level I want, but really, this looks awesome.

#2 Posted by Ravenlight (8040 posts) -

I've got the biggest space boner from that announcement.

#3 Posted by Silver-Streak (1376 posts) -

Also, the fact they're making a combat space sim campaign and an open world is exceedingly smart, not only do you get to bring in both Space Sim crowds, but you will (potentially) make the combat better overall.

#4 Posted by Dragon_Fire (368 posts) -

Yeah it uses the Cryengine 3 for the visuals. Which makes it look amazing!

And it Looks fucking awesome!

Can't wait!

Dude. I thought the trailer was CG... until I read more articles about it.

Willbuywillbuywillbuy.

Also long live PC gaming.

#6 Posted by Tim_the_Corsair (3065 posts) -

I will legitimately go and buy a new joystick for this.

A good one, because holy shit I am so excited about this game.

#7 Posted by Mirado (1050 posts) -

They are asking for a load of cash, but that video provided an excellent overview and it's being led by fucking Chris Roberts, so I hope it all comes together.

They've got my $30, at least.

#8 Posted by selbie (1962 posts) -

SPAAAACE BONERRRRR!!

Already dropped $125. If only I was richer.

#9 Posted by Ravenlight (8040 posts) -

Are there recommended specs for running the game yet? I poked around last night and couldn't find anything. I've got a feeling I'll need to upgrade my rig. For space.

It's interesting they didn't go the Kickstarter route.

Agreed. They're still relying on crowdfunding but I wonder how much less/more exposure this project will get simply because it's divorced from Kickstarter.

Same. And possibly a TrackIR.

I foresee many victory rolls whilst flying through sweet explosions with a full wing of Duders.

Just imagine what it would be like with the Oculus Rift.

Oh wow, it is going to have Rift support... That almost terrifies me, to be honest lol

hell, i'll buy a new PC for this.

this is the first game with any sort of crowdfunding i have actually supported. actually it's the first game to make me legit excited in a long time. had to get that Freelancer title because that is a game that changed my life, so yeah, there goes my money~

#17 Posted by ripelivejam (4608 posts) -

ASTROBONER

#18 Posted by Genkkaku (738 posts) -

That teaser trailer got me more excited for this game than any game I've wanted to play before.. I mean the more he talks to more I just want the damn thing...

Just watching the cockpit view is nothing short of awesome, I'd use a Steel Battalion style controller for this

#19 Posted by emem (1972 posts) -

I've watched the walkthrough on their site a few times and it really looks just gorgeous, but 2 years is a loooong time away. I really hope they can make the money they need.

I'm actually a little bit disappointed that there's nothing but 5 minutes of time on a TNT for this project (well, boo hoo @me). Where's the flight club at? ;)

#20 Posted by selbie (1962 posts) -

They are at $455 000 in ~40 hours with their main site still partly down.

I've known about this for awhile, but ya it sounds neat. I don't know that I'd put anything into the kickstarter or whatever (I've never been big on space games although freelancer was pretty cool) but I'm interested to see where it goes.

#25 Posted by Subjugation (4733 posts) -

That actually looks pretty cool. I never got to play Freelancer or Wing Commander, so this would be a first for me. The concept sounds interesting enough.

#26 Posted by Sin4profit (2992 posts) -

Is this thing not on Kickstarter? i fear it won't get as much attention as it probably needs to make that kind of money on his own.

I'm looking forward to this thing and wonder if the in between missions banter would play out like Wing Commander. I feel it should play out like Mass Effect (as in the conversational systems) and their stats (abilities as fighter pilots) adjust based on how they feel about you...like a dating sim with space ships...

...

#27 Posted by Masin (131 posts) -

Holy shit. Ever since X3: Albion Prelude I've been waiting for another Space Sim. This is it. This is what I've been waiting for. I haven't been this excited since Bill Murray's sex tape.

#28 Posted by Zaccheus (1800 posts) -

Heard about this on Rebel FM and they said when you watch the trailer you will think it's CGI and sure enough it's hard to believe it's real time stuff. Space is a pretty cool place for visual eye candy.

#29 Posted by Christoffer (1893 posts) -

Are you gonna lose control and you think you like it?

#30 Posted by onarum (2229 posts) -

I just don't like that fact that the open world part of it is MP only(actually it sounds like a full on MMO, which makes me dislike it even more), single player is only the mission based freespace style stuff....

#31 Posted by selbie (1962 posts) -

Main site counter is back up now: $649,867 and counting from 6721 backers.

#32 Posted by Genkkaku (738 posts) -

Aiming for 2-5 Mil I do hope they get it, but since there's really no time limit theres really nothing stopping them..

#33 Posted by selbie (1962 posts) -

@Genkkaku: The crowdfunding component has a 30 day limit. They need to reach the $2M otherwise the investors participating in this project will not give their support.

#34 Posted by Genkkaku (738 posts) -

@selbie: ahhkay.. I obviously didn't have a good enough look, in that case I reckon with the current hype (the website shutting down and making $650K as far) they should at least hit the $2Mil mark

#35 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (1136 posts) -

Damn now I need a new joystick.....

#36 Posted by ShiftyMagician (2132 posts) -

Just took a look. My god I would love to dive into that universe if it all goes the way its envisioned in the trailer.

Unless they put out something new (I don't know if they can) or more websites put the trailer and/or an article out there it's probably gonna keep crawling along until a few days before it's over and hopefully the final days will push it over the 2 million mark.

I'm way more sceptical than I want to be and it's not because of the game, but because I wonder if there are enough people out there (left) who really want a new big space sim. Oh well, we'll see.

I can see that happening but I'm hoping the opposite.. I'm hoping that even if the crowd who are looking for that kind of experience isn't that big, that maybe the PC crowd who want this new big game for there PC make up the rest..

So far it's made about $30K since yesterday which is not that huge, so I guess the next few days will be telling.. I also noticed that you have to opt in to 'If not funded have your money refunded', which is good for them i guess..

I just noticed that :\ They better get the accounts system working soon.

#40 Posted by buzz_killington (3532 posts) -

The closest thing to a space sim I've ever played is Descent, and yet I am in awe of what this game is promising.

#41 Posted by crazyleaves (648 posts) -
@Genkkaku If they get close enough I'm sure Chris will just plummet down the rest. Dude is hella rich.
#42 Posted by Genkkaku (738 posts) -

@crazyleaves: Well with the Kickstarter there at like 1.3 Mil so I reckon they have a good chance.. Also never thought of that

#43 Posted by Leptok (942 posts) -

Waiting until I have extra money to give. But I'm worried, it seems super ambitious don't know if they can pull it off.

#44 Posted by StarvingGamer (8471 posts) -

You people are all crazy.

#45 Posted by Funkydupe (3321 posts) -

@StarvingGamer: Why aren't someone feeding you?

#46 Posted by thebatmobile (983 posts) -

The space boner induced by that trailer may or may not have ripped a hole in my pants. And roof.

#47 Posted by onarum (2229 posts) -

It seems to have gained some momentum now, between the kickstarter and their own thing I reckon they may be able to reach about 3 mil, still the privateer like stuff it's only at 5 mil so.....

#48 Posted by Farbelowaverage (51 posts) -

Alright, I chipped in for my space BMW. Now, the fact that it's 2 years out has me worried... not for the developers, but because that gives me enough time to set aside a small portion of my paychecks and have a new HOTAS and a Rift in time for launch. Investing in single games always worries me, but damn this seems awesome.
