Star Fox Command

Nintendo DS

A different take on the Star Fox franchise, Star Fox Command is the first handheld title in the series. Instead of flying a character through a level, the player maps out the actions before they take place, giving the game more strategy oriented gameplay.

Animal Protagonists

Games that have animals as the main character. The character must be playable.
Anthropomorphism

Anthropomorphism is the concept of an object, concept or character that has human qualities or traits, such as speech, a level of intelligence similar or higher than a human's and self consciousness. "Anthro" means "of human" and related to the concept of humanity.
Barrel Roll

A barrel roll is a maneuver in which an object makes a complete rotation on its longitudinal axis while following a helical path, approximately maintaining its original direction.
Boss Fight

A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.

The 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California on May 10-12.
Final Boss

The last boss you face in a game, usually representing the final climax of the game.
Fog of War

A staple in both the real-time and turn-based strategy genres, Fog of War simulates the unknowns of the battlefield by covering areas of the map, to be progressively revealed by the player.
Fox

Foxes are wolf-like mammals, many having red fur. They are thought of as tricksters, underdogs, or for women, if you're foxy, then you're sexy.
Friend Codes

A safeguard method of adding friends to friends lists on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Frog

A frog is a small and usually green amphibian that can swim, hop, and ribbit. Sadly, most of them aren't princes.
Gibberish

In some video games, when some characters talk, what they say has absolutely no meaning, at least to the player. Whether it has any meaning to the character speaking is another matter entirely.
Gravity

Gravity is a physical phenomenon, specifically the mutual attraction between all objects in the universe. In a gaming setting, gravity determines the relationship between the player and the "ground," preventing the player or game objects from flying off into space, and hopefully acting in a predictable/realistic manner.
Interactive Credits

Some games feature end credits that scroll over a playable segment of action.
Multiple Endings

Multiple endings is a term used to describe different outcomes or conclusions to a game based on the previous actions of the player.
New Game Plus

A mode that allows a game to be replayed after a first completion, carrying over items, experience, weapons, and other elements from the first playthrough.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection

Nintendo's online service. It currently supports the Wii and Nintendo DS.
Partners

A partner is someone in a duo that shares the same status and/or billing. In video games, you often switch from one to the other because they have different strengths and weaknesses.
Polygonal 3D

Who needs 2D when we've got 3D? 3D, or 3 dimensions, is what we're used to seeing in almost every game these days, letting us do all sorts of awesome stuff like run in circles!
Sequel is in a Different Genre

So you made a fighting game, and the direct sequel is a hack 'n' slash action game? Wait, what?
Shoot The Core

The term is derived from the Gradius series of Shoot-em-Ups (AKA "shmups"), but means any shooter in which the goal is to destroy an integral component of your target in order to win. In many games this core is represented by a glowing orb, which causes the enemy to flash when you shoot it.
Sidekick

Sidekicks, different from partners, are less powerful, less important characters who support the main protagonist and generally stick by their side.
Smart Bomb

A super weapon, often found in scrolling/rail shooters which destroys all enemies on screen instantly.
Space Pirate

Recurring enemy in the Metroid series, known for their warlike disposition and their cruel biological and metaphysical experiments on creatures in order to create devastating weaponry. Can, of course, include Space Pirates that don't happen to be in Metroid...
The Future

What lies ahead, and is distant from the present.
Touch Controls

Used with a touch screen to provide an interface for games and applications without the use of physical buttons.
