Lords of the Black Sun

Overview

Lords of the Black Sun (previously known as Star Lords) is a turn based 4X strategy game developed by Arkavi Studios. The game released on Steam's Early Access program on December 6th 2013, and reached release state on the 12th September 2014.

The game is heavily influenced by classic 4X games such as Master's of Orion I & II and Galactic Civilizations.

Gameplay

The game is turn based, and features classic staples of the 4X genre, such as trade, diplomacy, warfare, exploration, colonization and research. Battles are turn based and fought on a hex grid, with each side taking it in turns to maneuver their ships and fire their weapons.

The game features 8 playable races, who have distinct research trees and ship designs. The player can choose to customize the ships they use, using components unlocked via research to stay ahead of the AI.

The in game universe features minor factions like pirates and independent races who can grow to challenge the major races. Rebels from the players faction can even break off and form their own empires.

Players can take advantage of unique characters called generals who can be assigned to fleets of planets, granting bonuses based on their skill-set.
