Kinda Tedious
Square, this generation, has been awfully shitty. Infinite Undiscovery was horrible and Last Remnant, honestly, wasn't appreciably better. So, I was, admittedly, a little concerned about Star Ocean.
SO: TLH, however, is the best JRPG on the market. It beats out Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata with room to spare.
The biggest plus for the game is that there is, literally, ALWAYS something to do. You can pursue the main storyline missions if you'd so like to do so, but there are hundreds of side missions to do. True, most of them are tedious as can be --- but they are there. There is also the colosseum battles, which are actually exceptionally difficult and provide you access to some excellent weaponry. There are also bonus dungeons you don't HAVE to do, but the rewards for the risk involved is excellent.
The biggest plus, though, is just how customizable everything is. You can synthesize weaponry in the game to increase experience gained in battle; or to increase your attack power; or to increase the amount of money you make per battle. It's really a cool thing and it makes the game a lot of fun to play.
Visually, it is a top-notch title. Not the greatest game ever made, but it is a really attractive game. The audio is, well, bad due to SE's weird belief that everybody loves hearing characters with squeaky children's voices.
There is nothing to make one not appreciate the title. If you have any love for the JRPG genre left, it's well worth the time to play. It can take as little as 40 hours if you only want to beat the storyline --- but if you want all of the Achievements, it is FAR more likely to hit 200 hours.
