Actually I have no idea why that heart was put there, but my question is  has this game gotten better or progressively worse?

From what I hear, it has gotten worse. I would like to know from someone who has been playing this whole time too though, what they think.

I enjoyed the Beta and as soon as it goes free-to-play like Champions Online I'm playing it

I've been playing it and I think it's great. Albeit, I am a Star Trek fan so my view of it may be a bit skewed. Compared to the beta, it's about the same except a bit more polished. I haven't played a lot of MMOs, so for all I know this could be mediocre compared to WoW or whatever. To me though, it has become the only MMO I'd consider subscribing to.

DCUO sucking made me want to check out STO again too.  I patched it up and took a look earlier.  After getting bombarded with points, messages, achievements and other such nonsense for about 10 minutes, I realised I had absolutely no idea how to even play it anymore and then logged out again.  These games should bring up a short refresher course or something if you haven't signed in for months.

Or you could just hit "Reset Tutorial" or whatever it's called in that game somewhere in the options menu :P

I got back into STO again (Didn't have to find a disc though) and I'm enjoying it just as much as I did back in the beginning of the beta.

I'll probably check it out once I have a computer that can run it, and when the monthly payment plan is dropped. It looked like a lot of fun in a group

my problem was expectation management, what I wanted was  a AAA star trek RPG and STOs production values are nowhere near that. Again my fault but it has soured me on the game.

Or ask someone that is playing the game. What is it that you're confused about?
You go to Memory Alpha to build recipes. You can buy weapons or get them on
drops.  You get a new ship after certain level ups & keep the old ships.  Promotion
includes new Bridge Officers (or BOffs). You can increase difficulty in the Mission
menu, pick up health/repairs from the Earth starbase.  I've found that some of
the trade items for the random missions (in the wild space areas) are more
cheaply bought by random traders in normal space than buying them from any
given starbase.  There are Episodes now that you can play at any time as they
set their levels to your level.  I've hooked up & configured my Xbox 360 controller
for the game & it works great for space & ground combat.  As for space combat
sometimes there are some very tough ships.  On the STO forums they give you
some ideas about the kinds of weapons to use.  I use phasers & something a
little stronger than photon torpedoes.  Some people say Space Combat is easy
but I've had a pretty tough time in some parts.

I'm also flying an Engineering vessel with a Tactical Officer (they call it a
Tac/Cruiser combo), but I really like the Cruisers before I knew that it was
better to use an Engineer for them.  Normally PvP you should stick to your
class ship if you want to be useful. Ie, Tac Officer uses Escort ships. Cruisers
use Engineers & Science uses Research vessels.

Agreed. It's great game.  A lot of people on the STO Forums
bitch because the game doesn't follow Trek canon.  They have
these arguments that go on & on.  But I like the way it stretches
out & adds different non-canon things to the game.  Biggest bitch
is about seeing Star Trek Original Series uniforms with other
people having DS9 or Enterprise uniforms, or Trek ships from
different time periods, or that "City of Heroes" feel on some of
the Aliens or uniforms.  Since it's a Single-player MMO basically,
the damn game can be anyone's Star Trek, so by that definition
it's following a canon (your own) if you don't team. LOL.

LOL!  Probably will right after TOR is released.
