More Improvements in the Game

1.)  When the game came out, you could fly into a planet & just bounce
off. Which was pretty funny at the time.  You can't do that anymore!  When
you run into a planet's surface a friction as bright as sunlight hits your
ship & seems to mimic an actual atmospheric entry.  However, I think if
you keep flying into the planet you're ship will explode or maybe it never
gets below the atmosphere.  At any rate, this is more realistic than before.

2.)  Difficulty settings have been introduced, that may have been there
before, but I don't recall seeing them.  They introduce some penalties for
defeat.  Wounds for you, your away team, & damage to your starship. So
basically when your ship blows up & resets, you have some damage
penalty on your ship.  Same for your Captain in the ground game.  Like the
mini-games the difficulty settings are entirely optional!  If you play on Normal
difficulty, there are no penalties in-game other than a 5-10 respawn delay.

3.)  I could have sworn that after release date, the Xbox 360 controller did not
work for the Ground Game, but it would work for space battles but it was
a bit of a hack to make it work.  Since the controller works with the Ground
game nearly  flawlessly, the only problem I've found is in programming the
buttons. I'm checking on the forums now about that.  I think the ground game
is the only place where the Xbox 360 controller is absolutely a must.  Everything
else, space combat, flight, & mini-games work fine with mouse & keyboard, but
trying to walk around with mouse & keyboard is downright unwieldy &
difficult.

So far I'm really impressed at how they've stuck to it & are making this
game a bit better each month, rather than letting it crash & burn.

Oh yeah. Both Star Trek & Champions Online are still chock full of
players & their forums are still quite active.

Damn straight too many people out there think you have to have millions of subs to be successful as an mmo.  You just plain don't, you just need a decent sized fanbase who are consistent and stick with your game over a long period of time as well as new players every so often.  I no longer play champions online or star trek myself and both are constantly ragged on but when I quit playing them they both still had plenty of people even in newbie zones, it was well after launch, and the forums even now are very active.  Neither game is a massive runaway success but I bet you they are slowly but surely making their money back, champions probably already has.
