Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron is a game based around the era of the original trilogy. The campaign is rather short and the story isn't that exciting but the gameplay is what matters most. You are Commander Col Serra and you lead the Renegade Squadron through missions around the galaxy to aid Han Solo and the rebellion. In the game you are given 100 credits to spend on various weapons and items to assist you in battle. There are eight types of equipments and attributes you can use your credits on; Primary Weapon, Secondary Weapon, Explosives, Special item, Power up, Health, Speed and Capture rate. This system is great because it allows you to customize your character to your needs and you can also change them if you are at your own command post. There is a wide range of equipment in each of the categories so you have alot of customization options. The controls are a awkward at first because of the lack of a second analog stick. After a while you get use to tapping L to jump or holding it down to run. The other problem is that you can't look up and down you just have to lock on to your enemy then fire. The cutscenes in the story are similar to those of MGS Portable Ops but less effective. There are three single player modes which consist of Instant Action, Campaign and Galactic Conquest. I didn't really understand the Galactic Conquest so i didn't play alot of it but the Campaign is pretty good but too short and easy and I've already beaten it twice. The Instant Action mode is just the multiplayer but with only bots. Lets move onto the multiplayer. There is a 16 player Infrastructure mode which is the best part about the game. It has 15 planets to play on as well as 7 space levels with a range of modes; conquest which is the standard game where you have a number of points and when someone is killed a point gets taken off. 1 flag and 2 flag CTF. Hero CTF mode where you have a hero who has to capture the flag and then there is the assault mode for the space levels that is the same as conquest but you are in battleships instead of being on foot.
Overall I liked Renegade Squadron but it feels like there is something missing. It is a pretty good PSP game and a must own for Star Wars fans.
