I know it's dirt cheap but I still don't like to waste money. Considering that I'm not a fan of recent BioWare games (Dragon Age and Mass Effect) and I only think Star Wars is alright, is this game still a worthwhile investment?

Also, this game is somewhat old and I'm on a laptop running WIndows 7 and and integrated graphics card, so will it even run?

I just bought it yesterday and it runs fine on my Windows 7 machine.  Also the combat is quite fun.  More similar to Dragon Age than Mass Effect but it is different than Dragon Age.  Kind of feels like a fusion between the two with its own little quirks.  Only played an hour, but definitely like it a lot so far.

I liked Kotor 1 more than 2. It had that classic Star Wars feel yet with something new. Kotor 2 just felt like they tried too hard.

KOTOR 1 had like, 2 likable characters at best, and none of them were particularly well written. KOTOR 2's characters are all well written (well maybe not the wookie but whatever)

Well this seems fairly unanimous. I've spent more for a flash game (VVVVVV) so I figure I at least owe this a try for this price.

The characters were better but the main thread was terrible in my opinion.

2 had better characters and overall gameplay... 1 had the  better story and twist... and not just by a small margin...
So yeah it is totally worth it if you haven't played it before.

Yes, I've started replaying it myself recently, and it holds up pretty well. There's still some jank in it, for sure, but it's still honestly one of the greatest games of all time, and my favorite BioWare game. This is coming from someone who loves Jade Empire and thinks Mass Effect is the best franchise of this console generation.

@BubbleBobble: Nobody wants that and it doesn't want anybody. I don't think I ever even got off Hoth without cheating.

KOTOR for $2.50 sounds like one of the best deals ever. I have a feeling it might have aged a little funky but I'm sure it's still fantastic.

I'm in the process of playing through it for the 4th time. It's one of my favourite games of all time (sigh, can you tell?). I'm not having trouble with it, even via shoddy 360 emulation. Then again, I might be blindly wearing nostalgia goggles while playing it--no idea.

I enjoyed 1 more than 2 to be honest. The sequel has a massively disappointing ending that feels like no one cared to even try. Then again, it was made by Obsidian so maybe that goes without saying.

Bastila is a pretty bomb character imo. Certainly worth the price of a burger. Know going into it that the combat system isn't exactly real time like Mass Effect. It plays out in real time but you can tell that there are turns taking place.

That's actually good to hear. What put me off of Mass Effect was that even though I had direct control over Shepard, combat was still basically dice rolls.

Yes. To be fair, it doesn't hold up under close inspection, but for $2.50 it's a steal.

Well that was the hope for most people as to why the story had a complete "wtf?" moment for an ending. I'm assuming you completed it too. Do you not agree that the finish made you go "... seriously?"

Great writing and characters, but a poor overall plot seems like the standard for Obsidian games.  Still personally liked the second one more as well, despite the non-existent ending.

I think it definitely holds up, but this is also coming from the guy who played Fallout 1 for the first time 10 years after it was released and still thought it was one of the greatest games ever. If you can appreciate art-style and story instead of modern graphics and streamlined gameplay then absolutely yes.
