I had ten bucks and decided to grab it on steam, I know the big plot twist which sucks and I'm expecting some awkwardness in the controls. What should I know before playing?

The game starts off a bit slow, but try to stick with it. It's no Mass Effect, but overall the game is definitely worth playing through.

Not really much else I can think of, perhaps brush up a bit on your Star Wars lore beforehand.

The cool thing about a bunch of Kotor quests is that you can be rewarded twice if you play your cards right. It's been too long since I've played it to remember specifics, but as an example you might be able to convince a bounty target to pay you off so they can escape and then tell the quest giver that you killed him. A jedi's gotta get paid.

Roll deep with Jedi, try to get past the first planet before passing judgement. It gets really good after the first planet (some find it to be boring).

First planet can be horrifying, its what keeping me from replaying, but after that...shit, pure awesome.

It shows its age a bit honestly. It was a fun game but the combat is very basic at this point if you've played FF12 or Dragon Age which took the foundations of KOTOR and made it cool, so it's hard to go back to at this point. Also sometimes it has weird difficulty spikes on specific fights so you should always be prepared for weird stuff like that. Also unless you really care about the specific story going on with an NPC... most sidequests are fairly worthless.

I've just started playing it, so allow me to tell you something: it's pretty DNDish. That's one thing you really don't hear when people talk about this game.

You were not kidding, this game play either needs to be more rpgish or less, I can't decide. Still I'm loving the atmosphere so far.

the twist was spoilt for me too. but i played through it this year for the first time and loved it.

it does start very slowly though and didnt get good until you leave the space station at the start (about 4 or 5 hours in) but stick with it and you won't be disappointed

also try and patch it so it runs widescreen other wiser everyone looks short and fat.
