    The devs are hosting a live stream on Twitch right now while they work on weather systems. http://www.twitch.tv/chucklefishlive

    Some notes copied from Reddit (to save you the trouble of visiting Reddit):

    • Tiy | ?:?? | Weighted weather settings for biomes. Biome files can define the rarity of certain weather types.
    • Tiy | ?:?? | There will be a barren biome in the upcoming update. No trees, very boring biome. Mostly designed for building on a clean slate.
    • Tiy | ?:?? | Asteroid biome world type.
    • Tiy | ?:?? | You'll be unable to breathe on moons.
    • Tiy | ?:?? | Easily mod-able weather.
    • Tiy | ?:?? | Modded items will be able to define the quantity of water to spawn.
    • Tiy | 10:00pm | I made meteor showers, by the way. They're a little too powerful at the moment.
    • Tiy | 10:21pm | Rain crates small amounts of water by using invisible projectiles coming from the sky.
    • Only during storms.
    • Tiy | 10:22pm | Storms might be given a shorter duration.
    • Tiy | 10:49pm | We have storms, rain, drizzle, meteor showers and acid rain. Acid rain needs more work.
    • Tiy | 10:56pm | Possible acid guns.
    • Tiy | 10:58pm | The next weather I'm making should be a huge single meteor strike thing.
    • Tiy | 11:00pm | I'm going to make meteors create meteorite blocks, and hopefully craters.

    And this note about wipes:

    • Kyren | 9:47pm | The next update will wipe your universe and quests, but not characters. A future update which will include the feature which prevents future wipes will wipe everything.

    Considering Tiy was showing previews of Christmas decor I'm guessing the next update will be in the next few days. It'd be kind of silly adding a bunch of Christmas stuff just after Christmas.

    Along with an early iteration of these weather systems and Christmas themed items, from what I've read this update or another one on the way will also have:

    • Ride-able rails you can construct (as in Bioshock Infinite) edit: Also originally created by a modder.
    • An option to teleport to the surface or your home planet instead of just the planet you are orbiting.
    • Automated turrets - actually created by a modder but Tiy asked if they'd like it in the game.
    • Bioluminescent worlds/creatures ("pretty soon" so possibly not next update)
    • Ship upgrades have been in the works for a while according to at least two devs. No word on if that'll be in this update.
    • Wiring stations with more advanced wiring/switch items.
    • Key rebinding.

    Fun fact about this, it was actually a mod posted on Reddit. The dev liked it enough and commented if the OP wanted it in the base game.

    Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. I like how open the developers are being with this game. It feels like the way this Alpha/Beta ongoing development process should be. Not just inviting people to stress test the game, but inviting them to have a real hand in it's development. Listening to suggestions from the community while keeping a firm grasp of your overall concept.
