Dude, 10gate 4gate. I've won my last 10 PvPs with it. Save ALL but one of your chronoboosts for warpgate then warp in units and attack ASAP. They usually panic and screw up and you win. After you push them away from their ramp plant a pylon in their base and warp in tons of zealots. It's a great way to deal with the horror that is PvP." o_o I am so sick of PvP, I think this is what I am going to do from now on. "
There's a rank cannon rush on Metalopolis you can do that directly kills their mineral line. My buddy did it to me in practice. If you don't keep one of their probes out of your base it's autolose, and the only way to stop probes is to sacrifice your own. It works similarly on Xel'Naga Cavern. See oGsMC vs ManZenith game one of last GSL.
If I don't win with 4gate I just quit. War of The Worlds is not fun and it doesn't ever amount to any fun.
Edit: I watched your replay, remember, any half-good player will scout their base for that or proxygates so it is super risky. The smart thing for him to do would have been to go kill your base with his zealot and probes instead of attacking 4 cannons head on since he was ahead in probes and had an actual fighting unit. He would have at least forced a draw.
" @SoylentGreen said:Well, not a single probe to scout from your opponent. Not smart at all...I was the rusher." Scout sooner? "

It's just a Korean 4-Gate. Here's the Liquipedia entry(plus replays) for it:" @Ben_H: Can you post a replay of that 10gate 4gate? "

A lot of things work in Diamond, it isn't really that high anymore.
Cannon rushing is just another tool to have in the box. If you do it every game, that's bad. But it's something you should know how to do and execute properly, as well as how to defend against. As a zerg player, I still know how to 6-pool. It's very rare I do it, but it's a build to have, and sometimes it can throw your opponent off in a series (especially in the old map pool where there were zerg instant-lose maps).
Nothing wrong with it really, as long as it isn't the only build you know. It works in everything from bronze to pro-level if it isn't scouted, and sometimes that is just the price they pay.
" @Cataphract1014 said:Almost, except I don't cut gas at 50 and go for about 6-8 stalkers to quickly snipe pylons to cut power to their gates before churning out zealots. The Korean 4gate is way riskier but really hard to stop unless you get early stalkers out to kill the pylons they spam throughout your base. Most of the time I forget to 10gate but it still works as warpgate is only about 10 seconds slower going 12gate. The key is saving chronoboost and making sure warpgate is constantly chronoboosted. You can get a full round of units warped in before their gateways have even finished transforming and then it gets really ugly from there. They sometimes turn into basetrades if the other person also is being aggressive but because you have an extra set of units, if you micro well you will always win by simply having more stuff. I also do the safer thing of first building a pylon outside their base before running my probe up and planting a pylon below their ramp. It's just a Korean 4-Gate. How I 4gate is really vulnerable to early pressure but it seems to work a lot more than I thought it would. If I lose to early pressure I don't usually care anyway, because it's PvP and I would rather get it over with.
" Two of my friends got into master league by just canon rushing. They still haven't forgiven themselves. "Back before Master league, my buddy got into top Diamond 4gating every matchup. He was in top 300 for a day or so. He's now much better but doesn't have much time to play. I practice against him a lot.
This thread makes it sound like the only thing you can do in PvP is 4gate into colossus.
Which is wrong. But my advice would be to instead of just finding a rush or semi all in strategy, find a safe 3 gate robo or 3 gate stargate build that stops a 4gate. Then when you get promoted or start playing better players you don't auto lose to a better player who knows how to stop this semi all-in build.
My two cents :p
And I don't mean unstoppable in a "omg I'm a bronze player and cannon rush is unstoppable" kinda way.
It can be seen in the pro PvP games, where a tiny mistake can cause you the game. Also, I think the 4gating player has too many options: they can expo if they see you cannon wallin, they can just fall back when you're starting to have an advantage, they can just warp in zealots if they see you go immortals...
I think the 4gate is too good for its cost: it gives you flexibility and many choices, can auto win you the game if your opponent is not prepared, it has many variations that are not all in in any manner but can still be incredibly devastating; it is just inredibly hard to punish a 4gating player.
The 3stalker build seems to be kinda effecttive, but it can still put you behind if they don't 4 gate, and your tiniest mistake can cost you the game, while the 4gater can just retreat.
I think 4gate is too versatile and is incredibly hard to punish. If they fail to 4gate, they can just kinda fall back and regroup; however, if you're not prepared or your micro is not perfect, you can auto lose.
" @DystopiaX said:Well then... lol" Scout sooner, there's no reason you should lose to cannon rush if you scout it and are prepared. "he's the one cannon rushing "
Honestly though, I've had people cannon rush me since I was in Bronze and it's never been effective.
" @onimonkii said:Exactly, as long as you can prevent them from getting vision in your base, their cannons are useless." @DystopiaX said:Well then... lol Honestly though, I've had people cannon rush me since I was in Bronze and it's never been effective. " I've thought about cannon rushing...but it just makes me feel...dirty. And not in the good way. I'd probably just screw it up anyway. "Haha that's like me. When I used to do stuff like that when the game first came out I would overdo it, make things way to elaborate then end up losing to like 3 enemy units killing me.
