Giant Bomb Community SC2 US Tournament #12, Feb 25th!

#1 Edited by Thule (721 posts) -

Welcome to the twelfth Giant Bomb US community Starcraft II tournament!

This tournament is open to players of all skill levels and you're welcome to come spectate even if you're not participating.

Hall of Fame:

US Giant Bomb Community Tournament winners:

- The tournament will be played in a double elimination format. This means you'll have to lose twice in order to be eliminated.

- The semi-final(Losers's bracket and Winner's bracket) and final matches will be played as a Best-of-3.

- If a player drops from a match, he may request a rematch, assuming the match was relatively even.

- No cheating or use of exploits is allowed.

- Spectating other people's matches is allowed, assuming you don't have to play a match yourself. But please be courteous enough to leave if a player experiences lag due to a large number of spectators.

Map pool:

  • Korhal Compound LE
  • Antiga Shipyard
  • Entombed Valley
  • Metalopolis
  • Shakuras Plateau
  • Tal'Darim Altar LE
  • The Shattered Temple

+ Map to play on will be determined by elimination. Each player will eliminate one map each until only one map remains to play on. (You can also just come to a consensus together on which map you want to play on)

+ In the Best-of-3's in the semi-final and final the loser gets to pick the map after the first game.

How to sign up:

Sign-up page is now live! Sign up here

Official sign-ups will be done via the Challonge website on the day of the tournament itself. This is done to eliminate people who sign up a week ahead of time and then never show up. You'll have the ability to sign up officially until the starting time of the tournament(listed below). You will need a Challonge account to sign up. (also below)

If you want to join, please post your desire to do so in this thread, it'll get me some idea of how many people I should be expecting.

You also need anUS accountin order to participate. (Or a time pass in case you're from Europe and don't have a US account)

I´m also making it a requirement for everyone to sign up using their own Challonge account. The advantage of this is that you´ll be able to report the outcome of your matches yourself, rather than waiting for me to update the brackets.

You can sign up for a free Challonge account here.

The tournament is going to start on Saturday February 25th, 12:30PM CST(Central US), 1:30PM EST(East Coast US), 10:30AM PST(Pacific Coast US), 19:30PM CET(Central Europe)

If you're not sure about the timezones, check here. (Also let me know if I made a mistake)

Sign-ups will be open until 12:30PM CST / 1:30PM EST / 10:30AM PST / 19:30PM CET. This means you should arrive/sign up before those times, otherwise you won't be included in the bracket and won't be able to participate. Signing up will only take a minute, but don't be late, because if you don't sign up, you cannot participate.

I'll post the sign-up page on the day of the tournament. Bracket will be posted after sign-ups are closed.

Remember to join the 'giantbomb' channel on to meet everyone and find your opponent(s) quickly.

I'm in. My loss shall be glorious.

Oh boy. I should probably start practicing. If I can make 1 game last more than 12 minutes, this will have been a success.

I'd love to join but I;m not sure I can make that time since I work on Saturdays. How long does the tournament usually last?

Depends on how many people are present and how good of a player you are.

There probably won't be many people though, so the tournament probably won't last very long.

Times like these I miss living in the west... and having a computer capable of running SC2.

Good luck to all who are participating, and great job at keeping the dream alive Thule!

@Thule: Why does it say that the sign up page I'm looking for doesn't exist when I click the link?

Because I accidently left that in. I just copy pasted the old opening post from the last tournament and changed some things, but forgot to take that out.

Don't worry, the real sign-up page is now live.

Last minute sign up swoops in and lays waste to the competition. Sell the rights to a movie company! The Wizard 2 starring Baldgye!

Good job baldgye. I need to work on my micro to beat your immortal sentry stalker timing :D (this is roshambo)

#26 Edited by baldgye (771 posts) -

@pinthewind: :P

tbh.. my timings are pretty bad for the most part and I only push depending on what I see... and I like to go sentry heavy becasue imo's cost like no gas and a bunch of minerals... and when i saw dem phonex's I was honestly so happy :P

really good games though :)

#27 Posted by pinthewind (23 posts) -

yeah, i think in the last game i made 1-2 too many phoenixes which forced me to make too many zealots, which were just deadweight against those FFs :p.

indeed, very fun games :)

#28 Posted by baldgye (771 posts) -

I'm super curious to see the casts that guy did of some of the games!

#31 Posted by FluxWaveZ (19818 posts) -
@csl316: There were seven participants.
#32 Posted by csl316 (10868 posts) -

@FluxWaveZ: Ah, I should've joined to make it an even eight. Alas, I haven't touched the game in a year : (
