Welcome to the sixth Giantbomb EU community Starcraft II tournament!

This tournament is open to players of all skill levels and you're welcome to come spectate even if you're not participating.

Let's get started!

1.) Sign up here using your Battle.net ID(i.e. Name#123)
http://challonge.com/tournament/signup/ttxk573umi

2.) Join the ingame chat channel 'giantbomb'. Remember the tournament starts at 19:30 CET, so you might want to be there 5 minutes early, though it's not a big problem if you're delayed.

3) If you're not playing/participating, you can watch Jappernaut's stream here:
http://www.livestream.com/jappernaut

Bracket.
http://challonge.com/gbsceu6

Rules:

 - The tournament will be played in a double elimination format. This means you'll have to lose twice in order to be eliminated.
- The semi-final and final matches will be played as a Best-of-3.
- If a player drops from a match, he may request a rematch, assuming the match was relatively even.
- No cheating or use of exploits is allowed.
- Spectating other people's matches is allowed, assuming you don't have to play a match yourself. But please be courteous enough to leave if a player experiences lag due to a large number of spectators.

Maps:

I've decided to switch it up this time and added a couple of GSL maps to the map pool. I've also decided to add the other new Blizzard ladder maps to the mix in order for everyone to get some practice on them. And I've added Metalopolis so that there's still something familiar in there. Don't worry I'll change up the map pool again for the next tournament, so you won't be stuck with this one for ages.

Map pool:
- Metalopolis
- Slag Pits
- Shattered Temple
- Typhon Peaks
- Backwater Gulch
- GSL Tal'Darim Altar
- GSL Crevasse

- Map to play on will be determined by elimination. Each player will eliminate one map each until only one map remains to play on. (You can also just come to a consensus together on which map you want to play on)
- In the Best-of-3's in the semi-final and final the loser gets to pick the map after the first game.

How to sign up:

Reply in this thread saying you'd like to enter. Official sign-ups will be at the start of the tournament in order to eliminate no-shows and to keep the number of Bye's to a minimum.
Posting your B.net ID and character code might also be a good idea. This'll allow me and the other participants to add you now, rather than the day of the tournament. This'll save some time and hassle.

You also need an EU Battle.net account in order to participate.

When:

The tournament is going to start on Saturday March 12th, 19:30 Central European Time.

Sign-ups will be open until 19:30 CET, so make sure you sign-up in time or you'll be unable to participate.
I'll post the sign-up page on the day of the tournament. Bracket will be posted after sign-ups are closed.

Also, the new maps are not nearly as good as I thought. Close positions on Slag Pits are closer than on Metal, and Backwater Gulch is so damn small that you can't even position a 200/200 army properly.

Seems like Blizzard, instead of adding maps the size of the GSL ones, decided to copy a 4 player map layout and fill it with shit which greatly decreases the effectiveness of large armies, rewarding early- to midgame attacks.
If you want to add more obstacles to the maps, at least make them goddamn bigger. If a 200/200 army can't move in a tight formation for more than 10 seconds, and positioning is impossible, then hey, you won't see as many long macro games.

I really like Shattered Temple, though; a lots of space to manouver around and position your army. A step in the right direction. You're actually encouraged to take your third, which is pretty easily defendable.

I want bigger maps, Blizz. Make it happen.

@imsh_pl: Oh my god, i hate Slag Pits, it's worse than blistering imo.
#10 Edited by imsh_pl (3296 posts) -
@Titl: I think I like it the most from the 3 new added maps (shattered is just lost v1.5), but the remaining two are awful. On backwater the only place when you can position your army is the high ground where your natural is. On typhon peaks close positions, the destructible rocks connecting your naturals make the attack distance shorter than on steppes of war.

Patch 1.3. Leauge reset, added Crevasse, Tal'Darim Altar and Terminus to the map pool.

One can only dream...

Yes, even though the new maps are bigger, they don;t encourage macro play at all. Slag Pits is especially bad considering that it's a 5 second walk from your natural to your opponent's if you spawn close position.
I added it to the map pool anyway, because it's new and I want to give it a chance, but yeah I don't think it'll encourage macro play. Thankfully you can eliminate maps, so if you really REALLY hate it, you can always eliminate it.

Shattered Temple is pretty okay and I think Typhon Peaks can be a great map(with a few tweaks)

I won one game last time, let's see if we can't get a new record :D.

#13 Posted by imsh_pl (3296 posts) -

Alright. The thread is sticky-ied now.

#14 Posted by imsh_pl (3296 posts) -
@Thule: I agree. When a siege tank in my opponent's natural can hit my army at my natural, something is not right.

Will stream again if people want me to. Also, I agree that the new maps that blizz added suck. Even shattered temple is bad imo. The island no longer being an island is great but they should have made it so that you don't spawn in close positions anymore.

@imsh_pl:  It would be amazing, but i don't think it'll happen, the GSL maps (Tal'darim in particular) are better than the new ladder maps.i think Blizzard will try to make their own.
i got screwed by the siege tank "exploit" on slag pits, so i really hate that map now.

I am looking forward to seeing if the Amulet removal will make it out of the PTR.

Also, is it cool if two of my friends who don't use the forum play?
You played with them on that KotH night, Inept and Wolf they were.
Wolf had Belgium and everyone refused to take it when he left.

@Ineedaname:
Yea, it's cool if they join, just tell them to make an account and post their names here or you can post their ID's in their stead if they prefer that.

1351!
He got the game later so I imagine that has something to do with it?

Also, even if it turns out wrong, he'll be in the GB chat, he lurks that place.

Welcome! There's plenty of players of your own level joining in, so I don't think you've got anything to worry about.

Don't think the bump was neccesary because it's still stickied and on top for me. I think it's just a problem on your end.

Just keep watching the thread especially about an hour before the tournament starts, you will be able to sign up on that challonge site that will make the bracket. remember that the tournament starts at 19:30 Central European Time. If you want to know what time that is in your time-zone if you don't live in this time-zone you have to look it up yourself because I'm bound to make mistakes :P.
