RTS of the Year

2009 will be a big year for RTS games, with major releases like Dawn of War 2 and Empire: Total War, but neither will be able to best the greatness that is StarCraft 2!

From what I played of it in Paris last month, there is no doubt in my mind that this will be one of the best games to be released next year

Red Alert 3 and SC2 are the RTS games I can ever play

I'm sorry, SC2 might be awsome and all. But it does not seem like they are doing anything more with the game than wamping up the old SC to the next gen of games, please correct me if i'm wrong. Red Alert 3, I hate the look of it, but that's one that even i'l play. And I freakin hate RTS games.

Well, again, when people say the RTS gerne I say the StarCraft Gerne because thats been the only fun one EVER

I've been playing a bunch of Brood War recently and it is definitely one of the best RTS' I've played. Really looking forward to Starcraft II coming out next year!

Well obviously if you hate RTS games then you're not going to think SC2 is going to look good.

Might be because I'm a huge fan of StarCraft but I'll have to say SC2. I've played Dawn of War without really liking it and Red Alert has never been a game of my taste. Will probably buy all three of them though.

It has to be RTS of the Year . Blizzard games just seem to turn to gold. They have a "Magical development team"

I mean have you seen the alpha pictures of starcraft? and then they made it into the Starcraft we all know and love today

I don't think we have to worry about Stacraft II being awesome, it is going to be great game, or greatest game (<3 Colbert).
Now if only it won't consume every aspect of my life when it comes out...

Also I think RTS of the Decade might be a more appropriate title for the thread :P.

Starcraft II is one of two candidates to win GOTY. The other one is Spore, because it is so different.

Starcraft II is going to be one of the biggest candidates for Game of the Year in 2009. I'm predicting SCII will be released sometime this year, probably around late-November or December. Oh man, after a decade later, Starcraft has returned...I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

Oh man the first one is still played today....10 long years and still going strong...just imagine when Starcraft II comes out....possibly 50 years hahha dammit I may be exaggerating a little bit...LOL

Hate to plug in Halo Wars, but that's also going to be a heavy hitter when it comes to RTS's. I never had gotten into StarCraft, but I might play StarCraft II.

Starcraft II will win GOTY Starcraft won it, Warcraft III won it, and World of Warcraft won it. Starcraft II will win it. Blizzard is incredible

Isn't Starcraft 2 basically going to be an updated Starcraft 1? Similar gameplay? How has nobody here mentioned Company of Heroes? Now there's a quality RTS.

I am correcting you because you are wrong. Blizzard's entire reputation is based on misleading looks. Their games have delivered for as long as I can remember despite looking very lackluster in video. They aren't afraid to push back dates to improve their games and equally unafraid to cancel games altogether if they seem sub par. StarCraft 2 is 99.9% likely to deliver.
