Yeah it's real. You can play custom games with Terran only and a few of campaign missions.

And your map selection is limited to 4 or so common maps. I believe that two of them are Xel'Naga Caverns and High Orbit.

How long has this been happening? haha

I think since the beginning of August. Same with WoW you can play for free up to lvl 20.

You also get to play all of the Blizzard Mods iirc.
