will you be able to download starcraft II?
To all you duders out there me and my brother are gettin the alienware m11x gaming laptop and I need to know if I am able to download starcraft 2 when it launches(the legal kind of downloading). I only ask because my brother just told me that it does not have a disc drive for me to install starcraft 2 using the disc when it comes out? Oh and if any one who has this type of laptop I need to know if it does have disc drive or not.
Yeah i'm 90% sure u can... i remember reading it somewhere official. Just so you know, you can download all of Blizzard's current games via battle.net (D2, Starcraft etc) as long s you've registered a cd-key to your account.
If for some reason they don't allow downloading when the game is first released, you could also put the DVD in a computer that does have a DVD-Drive, then create an image of it and mount the image on your m11x using daemon tool lite or alcohol 52%. It's very morally okay if you are creating the image off your own disc. Alternatively you could use an external dvd drive plugged in via usb, but as the other options are free i'd pick them above this one.
What are the specs of your m11x? Does it run SC2 well? I was thinking about getting one.
Eventually I'm sure Blizzard will sell CD Keys through their store, and then have the game available for digital download.
Right at release they won't to force people to shop at the stores for a bit and move some boxes. Also to take pressure off the servers which will be swamped with people on the early days. They will later for sure. They have with every other game so far. No reason they wouldn't this time too.
Kind of an old thread but since I have the answer, I'll give it anyway.
The answer is that starcraft will NOT be available for digital purchase at release. It will be available for digital purchase "soon after" the retail release.
HOWEVER, you are not out of luck. You can purchase the game, tie the cd key to your bnet account, and THEN download the game. So yes, you can download it, you just have to buy a retail copy first, rather than an online one.
Hope it helps.
" Of course. There's no reason at all to buy retail until the inevitable "battle chest" 3 years from now and that will probably be downloadable too. "It'll be at least 3 years until the Zerg Standalone...>.>, I say maybe about 7+ years later we'll see the battle chest.
I think Blizzard just said you can download the thing now. And then pay for it when it's "on shelves" to unlock access to the game.
This sent shivers down my spine." @ryanwho: You know it's true. 2010 - SC2 Terran & WoW Cat2011 - Diablo III 2012 - WoW Exp 2013 - SC2 Zerg 2014 - Diablo III Exp 2015 - New MMO 2016 - SC2 Protoss That's being optimistic too.... "
I also fully support a Universe of Starcraft MMO. So possibly put Protoss in late 2015, then move MMO to late 2016 and they will sell a million billion copies.
Of course Blizzard can release these at any point in time still sell tons.
