Would you pay for televised SC2 matches with pro-commentary?
I wouldn't pay money to watch real TV in the first place, but if it was free and ad sponsored, I would be ok with that.
It would depend on the quantity and quality, but I wouldn't mind throwing out a few dollars for high level commentated matches that could be watched at my leisure. I have to do something while eating right?
" Watching someone else's match is time I could be using to play the game itself. I'm never going to be the guy who memorizes 20 hotkeys and I don't idolize crazy people who do. Especially since that shit is fixed. "
WHY WATCH SPORTS WHEN I CAN PLAY THAT SPORT OUTSIDE. WHY LISTEN TO MUSIC WHEN I CAN PLAY THE INSTRAMENTS.
god that argument is tired.
" I wouldn't pay for TV... Hell i don't watch TV. But i might start if they televised SC2 matches with commentary... Maybe not pro-commentary though, cause that just starts sounding really weird at a certain point. "This. Although i don't think i would get interested enough to see more than a first time.
" @ryanwho said:Indeed. WHY DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE AND CREATIVE WHEN I CAN COME ON A FORUM AND BE THE HATER OF ALL THINGS." Thank you for expressing the sentiment that everybody feels. It's similar to people who say stuff like, "Why are you playing rock band? learn the real guitar." "Really, I noticed that you play Call of Duty, yet I don't see you fucking enlisting."
" @ColMirage said:Just like anything though, the actual professionals are leaps and bounds better than most youtube commentators. Someone like Tasteless, Day9, Daniel Lee, or Artosis blows youtubers out of the water." Plenty of people on Youtube doing it for free already. "Yeah, tons. I never really played SC when it came out, but some of those commentated games have been fun to watch. "
" Also, I would only pay for SC in the sense that something like ESPN opened up a gaming segment (paying for cable), but that would never happen, and if it did it would only air at like 3 a.m., Which is still cool for me. "If that results in those Madden Challenge shows never airing again, I'm all for it.
You can log onto Korea's english TV station, ( www.arirang.co.kr) and watch a live stream of starcraft being played by the pros in Korea with english commentary on Thursdays and Fridays.
The idea isn't to pay for this stuff, it is to get a large enough audience that advertisers will sponsor these guys. Then the players and commentators will be able to keep doing what they like and we will get entertainment for free, but with a few commercial logos and shoutouts to sponsors. (That replay bar cover sure makes a nice spot for an ad, don't you think?)
The entire business plan will fall apart if they try and charge for this stuff. I think they know that.
No its more like "why watch someone play rockband when you can play rockband." Its more like "why watch someone play madden when you can play madden." The idea of comparing pro Starcraft players to NFL players just shows how clueless you are about how much effort it takes to be an NFL player. I can't simulate playing in the NFL in my backyard. This whole line of thinking doesn't hold up at all. And in your attempt to gloss over what I said and insert an asinine parallel, you overlooked the more important issue. Its fixed." @sixghost said:

You think it doesn't take effort to become a pro-starcraft player? They practice 10+ a day, on weekdays and weekends.
