FUCK YES LA-MULANA!

#52 Posted by Sumdian (18 posts) -

@BisonHero said:

Just checking: La Mulana's map is predetermined, like Metroid, right? Not random, like Spelunky?

That is correct.

Unepic should have gotten The Warz place on steam.

#54 Posted by IamTerics (407 posts) -

La-Mulana is pretty fucking awesome. At first I thought it was just going to be a traditional Metroid style romp but, then the game world started to open up. The mix of high difficulty and huge variety of puzzles is what really surprised me about La-Mulana. Everything in the game feels as if it was there for a purpose. On top of all of this is an intriguing lore that surrounds the ruins as you explore.

WHERE IS EURO TRUCK SIMULATOR 2

The lack of Euro Truck Simulator 2 displeases me.

Why? It's already Greenlit, it just needs to be released.

From the Greenlight page:

Greenlit!
We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the big family of Euro Truck Simulator 2 fans! Your help was fantastic - our game is coming to Steam!

We'll be working hard to get ETS2 on Steam as fast as possible, but we have yet to take care of paperwork and handle all the technical details to make the Steam release happen, so please have patience with us.

That was at the beginning of December, so it shouldn't be too much longer.

If you’ve played or checked out anything on this list that you’ve found particularly interesting, let me know.

Sexism!

While the game that got the greenlight was its sequel, I would like to point out that Eador Genesis is amazing... for someone like Dave or maybe Vinny.

#59 Posted by BillyTheKid (484 posts) -

Nothing that I see here that really screams buy me.

P.S. Where the hell is Black Mesa? I know I can download it but why is it not on steam? Didn't that thing get Greenlight?

Will probably be released once it's done. They're still missing the final couple of chapters.

Oh nice, Leisure suit Larry got in already.

Greenlighting for Giant Bomb?

#63 Edited by Dberg (567 posts) -
I managed to find 7 games I had some marginal interest in after browsing through 459 that looked awful. This batch of 10 does not contain any of my favourites. I won't pretend that my personal disappointment and following disinterest matter in the grand scheme, but I know I won't bother looking more at Greenlight. That could spell trouble for them if it's a shared sentiment among steam users.

Unepic is great metroidvania style game! + Yay for War For The Overworld too!

#65 Posted by RobertOrri (1120 posts) -

La-Mulana, finally!

#66 Posted by LikeaSsur (1497 posts) -

DLC Quest sounds pretty humorous. That's about it on that list.

Kind of weird to me that Cook, Serve, Delicious! hasn't made it yet.

The iPad version is almost the essential version.

#68 Posted by Bubbly (251 posts) -

Awesome to see La Mulana finally get some of that Steam love.

#69 Posted by fox01313 (5064 posts) -

So glad to see War For The Overworld on this list, looks like a new & improved Dungeon Keeper game with some recent stuff for it on Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Not sure on the others with this list.

Weak. The racing game, Distance, by the Nitronic Rush guys should've made the cut over Leisure Suit Larry, at the least. Nothing against LSL especially, it just seems like more of a nostalgia/retro reference game than an actual....GOOD game. An itch that's fine to scratch, but not when other games are actually trying to find a foothold and get into the market.

#72 Posted by Soniku (36 posts) -

The Pinball Arcade will never be greenlit. Ever.

I would almost agree with you, but they are almost like 2 completely different games when you compare the PC and iPad versions.

There's something raw about the PC version where it almost feels like a typing game, capturing almost the same urgency and magic of Typing of the Dead. The iPad version while still a great and quality version, feels like more of a known quantity. The iPad version is clearly the better fitting shoe, but something about using the keyboard for input on this game makes it really special.

Leisure suit larry? What? Is it actually the first leisure suit larry?

I'm ashamed that I forgot Age of Decadence existed. Great to see it being picked up out of Greenlight

#77 Posted by Sparky_Buzzsaw (6107 posts) -

Glad to see Leisure Suit Larry get picked up, though that was probably to be expected. Looking forward to trying Eador too.

@TMThomsen: Oh I was under the impression that they were finished with it. Either way, we had to wait until now for it to be out in some kind of form I guess we can wait a bit longer.

#79 Posted by Patman99 (1559 posts) -

That seems like a pretty good list. Age of Decadence, Unepic, La Mulana, and DLC Quest have all piqued my interest.

#80 Posted by x0mb13 (32 posts) -

The Age of Decadence looks amazing! Thank you for highlighting this. Having read the review of the beta on the greenlight page it sounds like it is going to meet expectations.

#81 Posted by _Horde (838 posts) -

No Cook, Serve, Delicious. :(

#82 Posted by JaredA (820 posts) -

Really excited about Asylum finally making the list! Now the long wait until it is released...

#83 Posted by coaxmetal (1582 posts) -

It's a about fucking time they grabbed La Mulana, that game is been done and out on other services for a while. And its awesome.

Some of these look cool but the continued lack of The Pinball Arcade on Steam is really distressing and makes me wonder if I really want the steam community to have this much say in what goes up. How the hell does a game with tables licensed from The Twilight Zone and Star Trek not immediately get fast tracked on to the service? Last I hard they were only in the top 80 or something, but I'm sure all the people who voted for the game would pay for some tables as well.

It's fine that valve have democratized their service but it seems that in some instances more niche games are going to get the shaft in favor of more in vogue indie puzzle platformers and horror games.

It's a shame. Every time they announce more games have been green-lighted, I keep hoping The Pinball Arcade finally gets the go ahead but no luck. I'd be willing to part with 15 or 20 bucks to be able to play the Twilight Zone board, even if it's just a digital recreation, again.

Leisure Suit Larry gets in but no "Cook, Serve, Delicious!" ? Something is wrong here.

#86 Posted by zeekthegeek (383 posts) -

I have DLC Quest. The only thing notable about it is how little of a game there actually is to it. Looks feels and lasts as long as a mediocre free flash game.

#87 Posted by IrrelevantJohn (1035 posts) -

La-Mulana is pretty good guys. You will rip your hair out :)

#88 Posted by Viking_Funeral (1744 posts) -

After Towns and War Z, I'm a little wary of Greenlight. Hopefully these kind of mistakes aren't made again.

Is it the original or the upcoming Kickstarted remake? Either way, Leisure Suit Larry was once pretty well-regarded as far as adventure games go.

la mulana is pretty cool. already own it tho

#91 Posted by MikkaQ (10270 posts) -

Aww still no Cook, Serve, Delicious. Lame.

#92 Posted by fantomspower (43 posts) -

La-Mulana and Unepic are ones to take a closer look at. DLC Quest also looks interesting, not sure how I missed that release.

So exactly how similar is it to something like Spelunky XBLA? Because if the answer is very, I can get behind it.

I wouldn't say it similar to splunkny that much. The jumping is kinda off in La-Mulana but it still a very good tough and maybe unfair game :)

I know Kentucky Route Zero was Greenlit, just waiting for them to come to an agreement with the games makers.

Hopefully it comes to Steam sooner than later. Can't wait for that game. Assuming it's episodic content, we'll be doing a little bit more waiting in between episodes...

#97 Posted by MachoFantastico (4517 posts) -

Still no Pinball Arcade? :( Seriously come on guys!

Played through DLC Quest a while ago, Really funny little game. Would be really good if it wasn't Soooo short.
