I missed the summerbadge by one vote. :(
Did you get anything for unlocking it, except the badge itself?

GODDAMMIT New Vegas won the last Communities' Choice I really wanted to get Alan Wa - wait, what? Saint's Row the Third with all DLC for $13? Oh Steam, I could never stay mad at you <3
HOLY FUCK. I thought it was just the game for 12 bucks and that the collection would be more.
Good lord, and I was about to go to bed too. That's probably the one deal from the entire sale that's too good to pass up.
Totally. I had a mild interest in Saint's Row 3, and for $10, I couldn't pass. (Not sure why the AUS price is less than the US price - it's usually the other way around!)

Nah, you didn't get anything for it. Just the badge. It's nifty, but it's no big thing.

I believe we have a winner folks.
Ok, but let me you ask you this....... why?!
Why not?
So here's my score:
Total price: $41.15. Wow, they really add up, don't they?

It's officially over guys. A sad day indeed...
Nah, not that sad, it was a pretty crappy sale; in other news: Jade Empire is 75% off.
YAY! First daily deal after Summer Sale is Jade Empire! It was one of a few games I wanted a good discount on during the sale. Great way to help get over the Summer Sale withdrawal. :P
Final damege:
Gifted The Witcher: EE DC
Most of the time during the sale, I was reminding myself how stupid it would be to buy games that I already own for consoles. Also, I hit limit for "Brown apocalyptic FPS"- and "sneaky action"-games quite early and passed whole bunch of titles because of this.Shame, I did not find any strategy games...
I was so close to buying Jade Empire before, since it didn't get any further discounts. Pretty glad I held off on that.
I was kinda disappointed somewhat with the Steam sale this year. Not that the deals weren't good as they definitely were but I felt like I already owned the most of the games on sale, outside of some of the publisher's packs. I still picked up quite a few games (a lot of indie titles) and in many cases DLC packs since it was usually cheaper to get the full collection including DLC than buying the DLC individually.
Games I bought during Steam sale:
Total = $182.25
So more than I had planned to spend but I guess I can't complain since I still saved a lot of money. Though ironically the only two games on that list I've even touched since purchasing them are Trine 2 and Ys Origin. But that's mainly because I'm still playing Diablo III.
I held back this year, but still spent a decent amount of cash on three double dips:
Total: $46.59
There were a couple I kind of wanted, but decided to wait (it was so hard passing up Arkham City, but I played it on the 360 already).
Alright. FINAL HAUL:
TOTAL: $64.23
I had budgeted myself at $50, but I just couldn't pass up the Saints Row The Third Collection for $13. I never got to play the DLC for it, so this gives me a chance to not only play through that amazing game all over again, but also see how lackluster that DLC was for $1 extra. = D
I also never got to play the New Vegas DLC, so I can see what that had to offer overall.
Here was my final haul:
Fairly sure I spent less than a hundred dollars all told. Got literally every game on my wishlist either through a daily deal or flash sale (except audiosurf), so I can't complain whatsoever. A good haul to be sure.

I don't think it was crappy per se. The Steam Sales operate on diminishing returns. The more of them you go through, the less you'll get of each successive one. It maybe dragged on too much towards the end, though. Having daily AND flash deals was a bit redundant. Instead of 10 days, it could have easily be done in 7. But I guess it was OK for people new to PC gaming and Steam, right?

Yup, my first ever steam sale, felt like I got a good deal overall. Spent £49 (roughly $76) and got:
Along with BF3, not a bad bunch of games to try out my first ever gaming PC with :)

Well, I mean, there were deals that were constantly repeated, which got really frustrating; and there was no real raffle like last time, only the badge thing. Also, I suppose it's pretty inconsequential, but the background illustrations were nowhere near as good as last time; something from the last sale:
@BeachThunder:
The community vote and flash deals took the place of the final day being a recap. That is why deals repeated on them so often.
EDIT: Also, I really enjoyed the background images and the story with in. They weren't as detailed as previous sales, but I enjoyed the slight shift in style and the exploration of the lives of the Steam kids.
This makes my first Steam sale. Here's my final haul:
All told, I spent about 47.80. Feeling pretty good about it so far.
Picked up a few games that I was holding off on. Every year I promise myself this is going to be the year I buy the PoP collection and every year I pass on it. As stated many times before, you get diminishing returns on these things each year, but I somehow always end up spending close to $100. It's the only imte of the year that DLC gets to the price that it should be and doesn't feel like a rip off when it's bundled.
Here's my final total. Wasn't anything that got me excited, but was more just a bunch of sure why the fuck nots?
Total= $82.12
1. Warlock: Master of the Arcane Plus DLC- $8.47

Why I bought it: It's Civ 5 with awesome Monsters and skeleton armies instead of boring people. Why wouldn't I buy it?
2. Rise of the Argonauts $7.49

Why I bought it: I have been dying to play a game during this time period, and this seemed to be the only one in recent memory that was not supposed to be completely terrible.
3. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 $2.49

Why I bought it: I HAVE NO IDEA! I think it was because I always wanted to play one these games and it was $2.50 so I said fuck it.
4. Age of Empires III $9.99

Why I bought it: I bought it on GFWL a long time ago for like $.50, but since it was on GFWL I might as well never have had it. Didn't think to see if I could apply my GFWL key on Steam until after I had bought it. :(
5. ArmA II $23.99

Why I bought it: I just bought it for the Day Z mod. Like everyone else.
6. ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead
7. BioShock $9.98

Why I bought it: I hated this game on the 360 because of the controller, so I'm hoping that the KBM will allow me to enjoy it.
8. BioShock 2 | |
9. The Binding of Isaac $2.23

Why I bought it: I played it a long time ago. It was a game I enjoyed to pop open and play a few rounds of. Figured for $2.23 it was worth keeping around the ol'hard drive.
10. Alan Wake Plus DLC- $9.99

Why I bought it: No idea.
11. Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad Plus DLC- $7.49

Why I bought it: I thought it was real nice of the devs to give away their game for free for buying the two Team Fortress 2 Hats. |
I think that explains why the sale started off so great and then fizzled. People like us who live for these sales are glued to our PCs voting, buying, waiting for the flash sales to flip. By the 7th day, the disappointment was setting in, but I was happy with the sales at that point because of the flash and community sales. I think added variety would have helped, but that's up to Valve and the game developers to decide.@BeachThunder:

With the addition of flash and community deals this year, there were more slots than there were deals to fill them. That leads to frequent repeats, like we saw. Fine for people who aren't checking the sale frequently — KOTOR was a top seller every time it was featured, so it clearly worked — but those constantly looking for the best deals or going for the badge definitely noticed the repetition.
That damn badge! It encouraged revisiting the sale frequently, but those who did were quickly disappointed. There was no reward for such action other than the badge.

My biggest gripe with the sales is finding games that are 50% off or more throughout the sale and how they were ignored. I had to search through pages and pages of games to find some of those last minute deals.
Absolutely. There were games that were 50%, even 75% off the entire sale, and there was no effort made to highlight any of them. It would have been especially useful to showcase some of those games when the daily, flash and community deals were noticeably repeating and people wanted more selection.
I had to rely on the search tool sorted by price on the last day to find hidden gems. That's less than ideal. Many probably didn't bother.
I used the same method and found 3 games I had been eyeing for a long time and didn't bother to get until now. I got to the $5 games in my search before I gave up... surprised I got that far. Valve needs to add something for the next sale that highlights games on sale for the duration. With the addition of flash and community deals this year, there were more slots than there were deals to fill them.
