Yes, I know the sales are still going strong from Steam but, kinda curious if everyone is happy or disappointed with their purchases or wished something went cheaper. I know for myself I'm very happy considering I snatched up ES: Skyrim FINALLY the night before my personal B-Day on Xmas...so, I'll be waking up tomorrow knowing I gave myself an awesome B-Day gift (yeah, my family is goofy about buying games for an adult since they think it's for kids /sigh). Also snatched up Dead Space 1-2, Renegade Ops, and ES: Oblivion all for $5 each...still debating on Trine 1-2 for under $20 bout it.

Well, Merry Christmas EVERY GB Duder and hope you all get what you wished for (or paid outta your own pocket - LOL)!!

Bought a few things for myself and a few gifts for friends. Best deal so far was 75% off Portal 2 on the first day, snatched that up immediately. Still got over a week left to go, and I see myself spending a lot more money :)

Merry Christmas duder.

I have everything I wanted to own, but I will definitely buy Witcher 1 and 2 on Steam sale. I'm also tempted to buy Fallout NV DLCs, but I will probably pass, they all suck anyway. I'm still waiting for something really good, that I was not really waiting for, to pop up.

you mean... inventory? aside from dead money they all allow you to take items in

I'm really enjoying my Steam Christmas games. I picked up a bunch of indie games and a few old games on GoG.com.

Oh yeah, and someone gifted me Skyrim today. Best... present... ever.

#9 Posted by AlisterCat (5024 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I have bought so much for other people, one for myself. Every year is great. I despise people saying saving money is bad because they didn't save money on the things they want. Buy something for someone else!

#10 Posted by ThePencil (382 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I decided to give The Witcher another chance, and picked it up (despite having an old ass disc lying around...somewhere) but, hell, t'was only £6.

Despite me absolutely hating it back when it was released, I'm enjoying it this time round. Definately a happy purchase.

#11 Posted by Branthog (7047 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I'm ashamed to say it, but I own almost everything they could offer me - so the sales this year weren't as exciting as last year. And last year wasn't as exciting as the one before it. (I currently own about 700 games on Steam and almost 200 games on GoG). I've bought a handful of things that I'd never consider in a hundred years (I bought the Railways train simulator because why the fuck not!). I probably have spent at least as much on GoG as Steam this Christmas, though (I've bought about 80 games on GoG in the last week and now own about 50% of the catalog at both places -- even though I'll never get around to playing them).

What I've really enjoyed doing this year, however, is buying copies of stuff and randomly gifting them to people. My younger brother lives at home on the west coast and I've spent a couple hundred bucks gifting him games. Unlike me, he'll almost certainly get around to playing almost all of them. I also have a few GB people on my Steam friends list (though not very many and I don't actually know them, personally). When I've come across a sale and seen their names under the item with "so and so has this in their wish list", I've bought it for them. Not a big deal, as cheap as the discounts are right now, but it's a lot of fun to know someone will log in and find a free game *that they wanted* out of the blue from a stranger. Christmas is rad like that.

So . . . yeah, I guess I'm a little disappointment this year, but it's more because of my circumstances than the selection/sales. I've still spent as much as most years, though -- and the real blast of it has been using it as a chance to spread the fun.

I've also got lots of copies of some stuff in my inventory right now. I bulked up on some of the deals so I can give goodies away on GB in the future. :)

Picked up Saints Row and E.Y.E so far, waiting to see if Dead Island and Deus Ex pop up.

#13 Posted by BaneFireLord (2277 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Picked up Disciples II Gold (for the second time) and Company of Heroes. Waiting to see if Fallout 3 goes on sale.

yea, I'd say so ... in a way at least ...'cause it also means that I spent way too much money considering how much I have.

I got: Renegade Ops (+ Coldstrike DLC), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, Hard Reset, Psychonauts, Orcs Must Die, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Rainbow Six 3: Gold Edition, Defense Grid: The Awakening DLC: You Monster!, Magicka: The Stars are Left DLC

I secretly hope there will be no more games I want ... the only rule I have is that I don't wanna spend more than 5 bucks on a game ... and only if I REALLY want it (or need, as is the case with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games which I need as research material for my BA thesis)

#15 Posted by crusader8463 (13075 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I'm not disappointed, but it's been a while since a steam sale made me giddy like a school girl since I now own pretty much any game on Steam that is of interest to me, and the few I don't are still going to be too expensive after the discount for me to bite the bullet yet. They will all be next year. So far I just bought Costume Quest and Rage. Everything else was ether something I already owned or had no interest in.

I've bought more this year then previous years. So far I've gotten all the Company of Heroes games, Duke Nukem Forever, Train Simulator, EYE, Fable 1, and Dungeons of Dredmor. I'm happy to say I've enjoyed each one. I also received Zombie Driver from the great give pile. I'm looking to buy Arma 2 if that ever goes on sale.

#18 Posted by acrimsonbullet (300 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I have dead space 1 and 2 on my steam account, and I have no idea how they got there. Haven't played them yet

#19 Posted by AhmadMetallic (18957 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Absolutely. Bought a few good ones.

It also feels good to look at tempting -75% offers and simply SHRUG THEM OFF BECAUSE I DON'T WANT that game.

#20 Posted by EchoEcho (600 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Picked up both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. expansions as well as E.Y.E. for myself, and convinced my girlfriend to grab the Neverwinter Nights 2 pack for future multiplayer purposes (as soon as I'm done carrying her through NWN1 and Shadows of Undrentide). That's probably about all we'll get, though; we're both strapped for cash. Was nice to see a few things I actually want on sale for a good price, though.

#21 Posted by Talis12 (471 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

games i bought this sale:

- Tom Clancy's: Hawx 2

- Wings of Prey

- Operation Flashpoint: Red River

- Fable 3

- Divinity 2

- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

- Rochard

and gave Bastion, Portal 2 and Singularity as gift to friends

#22 Edited by PenguinDust (12097 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I've picked up a few I missed last year and am waiting for more to show up on the daily super-sale still. I couldn't turn away from the $40 Elder Scroll Skyrim since it will be about a year or so before the GOTY edition (with DLC) drops at the same price. I spent more time in Oblivion than any other game last year, so...

I just need the time to play all these games. Where can I download that?

#23 Posted by NegativeCero (2494 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Portal 2, Gemini Rue and Psychonauts. Yep, I'll be busy for a while.

#24 Posted by vonFlampanker (312 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

A lot of my Steam and GoG purchases are replacements for disc games I own and stuff I pirated back when I did that sort of thing. I get a nice sense of satisfaction getting those games in a more convenient format.

#25 Posted by Xyber (287 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I finally made myself buy The Witcher 2, that's probably the thing I'm most happy with even though I haven't played it that much yet.

Other than that I've bought Audiosurf, Costume Quest, Dungeon Defenders, Dungeons of Dredmor, Just Cause 2, Orcs Must Die, Psychonauts, Renegade Ops, Sequence and the Humble Bundle. All this for about $40, downloadable PC-games and Steam sales is a perfect match.

That's a lot of games, now I just need the time to play them all..

#26 Posted by MikeHawk (368 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I'm doing pretty good for my first steam sale. So far, I've bought Portal 2, The Witcher and Duke Nukem Forever (I figured $5 wasn't too bad for a trainwreck). And my backlog list continues to grow...

#27 Edited by Questionable (596 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Just Hard Reset and Orcs must die. Will pick up the witcher 2 later when it's cheaper Skipped portal 2 because the first one was so short, fun but short. I am really hoping dungeon defenders will be featured.

#28 Posted by bybeach (3935 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

So far Borderlands GOTY, Skyrim, and Binding of Issac. I hope to see the dlc for New Vegas..and if Rochard comes up again, even if in a collection to piece buy. Wings of Prey was tempting..next sale

#29 Posted by AndrewB (6872 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

No, not really. There are games I sort of wish I had bought now that I've seen the wasteland of games I don't want. I also held off because I figured I'd have enough to play after Christmas. Since I haven't gotten a single game, that leaves me in a sea of regret. It shouldn't I guess, because I still have a crazy backlog of games to finish as it is.

#30 Posted by byterunner (273 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Meh. I've made some bad purchases this time. Terraria and Prototype.

Kinda meh on Terraria and Prototype just looks weird. After playing inFamous I find Prototype to look....well like an unfinished game. It looks like Spiderman 2, just with better models and textures. Basic combo system, and just bad VO and cut scenes. Doesn't help that my sound was fucked up or something because it was REALLY quiet.

I did get Orcs must Die and Hard Reset, so not all bad.

#31 Edited by AndrewB (6872 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

@byterunner: Prototype is totally an okay (if repetitive) game. Actually reminds me a lot of the first Assassin's Creed in that regard.

#32 Posted by Captain_Felafel (1309 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

As always, I've spent way too much money on way too many games I'll never play. Was able to grab the X games for $10 for all of them though; that's pretty awesome.

#33 Posted by atomic_dumpling (2322 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

It's mixed. One hit (Defence Grid) and one miss (Amnesia: The Dark Decent). Since Trine 2 won't be on sale, I think I am done for this year.

#34 Posted by Brake (926 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I don't know if it counts as being happy with the Steam sale but I got Saints Row 3 from Green man gaming, Deus Ex HR from Gamersgate and a bunch of smaller games from the Humble Bundle. So far very happy with my haul.

I took a hard look at that and bought the abbreviatted bundle for 5.00. I've always wanted a space sim! next a flying sim, but which...wings of Prey looked good yesterday.

#36 Posted by onarum (1805 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Surprisingly I haven't bought anything on steam yet this xmas, got about 30 games on GOG though :P.

#37 Posted by Danteveli (798 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

nothing bought on steam some stuff on amazon and gog

#38 Posted by Tordah (2370 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

The sales have been pretty good to me so far. I could've purchased more games, but I've been holding off a little.

#39 Posted by SirOptimusPrime (1555 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

E.Y.E., Fallout: New Vegas, The Humble Indie Bundle, Puzzle Agent 2, and Divinity 2: DKS.

Plus, a new video card and some extra cash for a new CPU. A couple of weeks and I'll have a computer that isn't a fucking hunk of shit. So yes, my Xmas Steam Extranaganzer was great.

#40 Posted by Sooty (6696 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I feel sad because I own so much on Steam already that most of the sales don't appeal to me anymore.

These are dark times to live in.

#41 Posted by Brunchies (2484 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

i went up from 60 something to about 90, this sale is pretty good.

#42 Posted by C_Rakestraw (747 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

The only thing I bought from the sales was the soundtrack for Bastion (so worth it!). I did get the Orange Box gifted to me by a fellow Giant Bomb user, though. Very grateful for that.

So yeah. I'm definitely happy with what I've gotten.

#43 Posted by Zace (78 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I've been buying more from other sites (gamersgate.com and .co.uk) as they had CRAZY sales on. ~22 for Deus EX:HR and the new DLC? YES PLEASE.

#44 Posted by Demoskinos (8996 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Honestly, no. Most of the sales have been awful then again I own most of what I would have already bought. I would REALLY like Dungeon Siege 3 to go on sale. Its the game I'm dying to buy but i don't wanna buy anything until all the daily deals have reared their ugly head. I did pick up Sequence, Atom Zombie Smasher , Bastion, Alice:MR, Killing Floor, Blocks that Matter, Audio Surf and got gifted Hard Reset.

Honestly the two best gets so far are Bastion and IMO Alice.

#45 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6779 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I've only bought Riot Points over the holidays. I'm hooked on LoL hard.

#46 Edited by Codeacious (903 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Yeah, even though I owned most of what I wanted already!

I ended up getting Payday, E.Y.E., Vegas: Make It Big, Dungeons of Dredmore + DLC, A.I. War + DLC, The Polynomial, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, The Ship, and The Witcher 2 all through the achievements and trading. No money spent on any of those!

I also bought DEFCON, Rock of Ages, Sonic Generations, Bastion (even though I owned/beat it on 360), Sequence, and the Humble Indie Bundle 4 (even though it's not really a Steam thing, it's still a great deal).

#47 Posted by KontX (100 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

Had to wait til after Christmas for the best deals since the majority of the earlier sales were games I already own. Serious Sam 3 is 50% off til tomorrow. I grabbed that immediately, then Dead Space 2 at 75% off, then Dungeon Defenders at 75% off. The total is less than $30 for those three. Can't beat that. If I wanted anything to change, it'd be Bioshock 2's price at $10. I bought the original years ago at $5. Maybe that deal is up next. :D

oh boy, i spent too much this year, but by god it was great!

i bought.

Humble Indie Bundle 4 (and got 3 with it)

Bastion

The Binding of Isaac

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Dungeon Defenders

Hard Reset

Portal 2

Rock of Ages

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate

Torchlight

Solar 2

Sandbox Universe

and World of Goo

#50 Posted by PeasantAbuse (4773 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago

I bought Metro 2033 and Magicka. A person on this site gave me Recettear: An Item's shop Tale and a friend of mine gifted me Batman AA so I can finally play through that. So I am very happy with my games, but not with my gifts from the great gift pile. So much coal and Valve coupons.
