What games are egregiously absent from Steam? I tried to start this list before, but it was too broad at the time, including games that weren't on any digital distribution platform at all. However, I've decided to redo it using Steam as my target DD platform. So what games would you like to see on Steam?

I'm going to be archiving suggestions here!

Gemini Rue not being on steam baffles me

  • The other two Thief games (One is on Steam, but I am not certain which part).
  • American McGee's Alice

Hmm... I'll return with more entires.

I wouldn't mind seeing League of Legends on there to be part of their "free games" lineup, but with DOTA 2 coming that probably won't happen.

Silent Hill 2, 3, and 4.

#11 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8698 posts) -

Battle for Middle Earth 2 (and 1 and its expansions iirc).

Was looking for that game on Steam lately, it ain't there.

#12 Posted by Saethir (353 posts) -

the Baldur's Gate series

#13 Posted by Video_Game_King (36272 posts) -

I'm not sure if Bullet Candy 3D or Saira count, since the versions I got weren't related to Steam. However, I do know that Digital: A Love Story and Cortex Command are nowhere to be found on Steam.

#14 Posted by c0l0nelp0c0rn1 (1807 posts) -

I got a good one Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance!

I'll update the OP with these awesome suggestions, and here's the list.

Hells yeah! Loved those. Epic battles and really fun in coop skirmish.

Where should the line be drawn with this list -- Free games? Really old games? Games that aren't available anywhere at all? Games that will never ever be on Steam (Startcraft II)?

Also:

  • Prey
  • Minecraft

you better check this list twice :)

The of Curse of Monkey Island (probably my favorite MI game) and Escape from Monkey Island.

Edit: Dammit! I just got Ninja'd. :(

#26 Edited by c0l0nelp0c0rn1 (1807 posts) -
@BeachThunder: The line is drawn at games that would be on Steam if it weren't for legal reasons, companies being petty, publishers just not re-releasing stuff. Games like Starcraft II has an explanation and an excuse for not being on Steam. It's freaking Starcraft. Same goes for Warcraft and Diablo. Battlefield 3 doesn't have an excuse because EA is just being petty about DLC and Origin. Or so it would seem.

Any gray areas like Microsoft PC games will be judged by me. Or you guys, I don't know yet.

Edit: No more gray areas, I'm just going to throw everything in there. Since the general consensus seems to be that everything should be on Steam, it makes more sense to put everything on this list.

Crysis and Crysis: Warhead are definitely on Steam.

Anyway, I would like to add:

  • Rayman 2: The Great Escape
  • Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

But why? What would that add?

Anyway, Gemini Rue was submitted to Steam but Valve said they didn't think it was right for their audience.

Also, the first Alice isn't available fucking anywhere.

I already use Steam for all my voice chat purposes, it could track my game time, possibly the addition of achievements? It would also give them some more players perhaps. I could see when my friends were on without logging in to LoL too I guess.

Why are there free games on Steam at all? =P

Yes, both 1 and 2.

Sins of a Solar Empire and any of the other Stardock games. Any of the Microsoft games like Freelancer, Age of Empires, the first Fable, Halo and Gears of War.

Because Valve takes a cut on all the microtransactions, as well as getting people to look at the Steam store.

I dunno, I think Riot's doing fine without having their game on Steam, and I don't think they'd want to lose a cut of their profits by putting the game on Steam.

A bunch of free MMOs. Kind of shocking how many f2p games there are out there and yet Steam has only a tiny fraction of them. I can think of quite a few that would benefit from being on Steam...

#41 Posted by valrog (3671 posts) -

Seeing how a lot of people gave suggestions and your list has only 6 games on it, I think it's safe to say that this thread flopped.

#42 Posted by c0l0nelp0c0rn1 (1807 posts) -
@valrog: Giant Bomb has a wonderful feature called lists...

You should check it out.

Even though, I've got over 100 games on the list in the link above, it's still been kind of a flop. People said Starcraft too many times, and I'm all like "NO! Starcraft has plenty of excuses from steam! Above all its excuses is that it's freaking Starcraft!". Nobody reads the entire thread.

I also added Rayman Arena, because I know how much Rayman fans love that game.
#43 Posted by valrog (3671 posts) -
@c0l0nelp0c0rn1: It's funny because I went to check if you have a list but apparently I missed it.
#44 Posted by c0l0nelp0c0rn1 (1807 posts) -
@valrog: Yeah it's going to be better curated now, however, I'm going to draw the line at a few games.

  • Blizzard games can't be on this list. I think Blizzard's DD platform is fine, and I also think Battle.net is fine.
  • Defunct MMOs can't be on here.
  • Free flash games can't be on this list.
I think those are the only lines I'm going to draw.

I hope I'm not the only one who saw the title of this thread and started singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town to himself.
