I'm all for opinions and all. But you'd seriously consider them two better than Mass Effect?
Perhaps it's a difference between Western and Japanese, but I felt the story, character development and written was infinitely better than those games, and most other RPG's for that matter. But I certainly wouldn't consider Castlevania an RPG compared to ME, and it seems unfair to compare the two.

The Metroid games aren't RPGs. I was obviously referring to the Castlevania metroidvanias.

Yes, I seriously consider those two better than Mass Effect. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of the best games of all time, and the GBA and DS games are all excellent; Tales of Eternia is my favorite JRPG of all time, and Vesperia is one of this generation's very best games. The Mass Effect series' interactive dialogue is enjoyable, but the story isn't particularly good at all, and the combat -- which constitutes more than half of each game -- is tedious.
And the action RPG genre is a wide one. There's nothing unfair about comparing them.
Sometimes Steam doesn't make any sense. Here in Europe ME1 is 3,74€, which is awesome, but ME2 is 29,99€, which still is 5€ more than if you buy it from any (online) retailer. The original price (60€) on Steam for ME2 is just plain silly. I am disappoint.

I bought ME1 for €2 some time ago in a Steam sale and haven't played it yet. To be honest, I don't find it very appealing... I'll play it during the summer, but meh, just because I bought it.
I got the first Mass Effect on a Steam sale too, and I try so hard to enjoy it because people say it's so good, but I just can't! I guess it's not for me...and I enjoy a good RPG!
So I'll have to disagree with you on that one. It's not the greatest RPG franchise ever =(
Everyone seems to forget the the R and the P are for "Role-Playing" something that you can do limited in ME and ME2 it is also something you can not do it Castlevania or Metroid hence why they are NOT rpg's.

So is Doom or Battlefield Bad Company 2 an rpg in your eyes then? I think not.
