    Steam

    Concept »

A digital distribution service owned by Valve Corporation. Originally created to distribute Valve's own games, Steam has since become the de facto standard for digital distribution of PC games.

Steam + low bandwidth = epic nonresponsiveness?

So yeah, my internet is quite slow at the best of times, and even on my brand new PC (let alone this laptop) Steam loves to hang on me. And hang. And hang some more.

I swear the netcode must be awful, like, Steam will freeze up unless it instantly loads the store page, and when it freezes, it can't load any more, so when it unfreezes it still hasn't loaded, and then hangs again. It's awful. Especially when there's an update news tab too! Gawd it really hates them.

So does anyone else experience these kind of hangs with poor internet, or is it some other problem? I mean seriously, half the time I don't even want to go onto the store - I just want to go to my library and play a game...
