Steam has been offline for a little while now, seems like its on every continent, might be another anonymous style DDOS attack...

MOD edit by Sweep: Kotaku just posted that it's a "Power outage". Source.

WHO NEEDS STEAM WHEN YOU GOT ORIGIN!

#5 Posted by blitzkriegblizzard (199 posts) -

Half Life 3 incoming.

Sigh, I have to put my achievement whoring on hold now.

The store just showed up for me f(O_o)

#8 Posted by Cronus42 (303 posts) -

@rebgav: It seems to depend on the game right now, anything that explicitly needs steam servers cant work. DOTA 2 is unplayable right now

Who needs steam when you have Tribes Ascend!

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! Gabe will be hearing from my lawyers.

This is what you get when you mess with Blizzard.

Servers are back, the crisis is over.

Store is still working in my browser, but not in Steam itself...
That's kinda weird, right?

#14 Posted by Dagbiker (7022 posts) -

You people and your reliance on a DRM based service.

#15 Posted by Cronus42 (303 posts) -

@MaFoLu: I'm getting the same thing. Still get the occasional 503 if i refresh the web browser version, but constant failures on the steam app side.

#16 Posted by falling_fast (2546 posts) -

I've had it on most of today and haven't noticed anything. though I've not been using the store.

It's slightly depressing that the removal of Dota2 from my life results in my brain turning into cardboard. I actually caught myself sitting at the computer for 5 minutes doing absolutely nothing except waiting for the steam servers to come back online. That game has turned me into a fucking automaton.

I still got nothing....

@Sweep: Seriously, you are ALWAYS playing Dota 2. I open my friends list, 9 times out of 10 you're playing Dota 2. It's almost like how I used to play LoL :)

That's. . . I'm sorry to hear that. Are you okay? Should I call someone?

Hear that. Still having problems myself.

I heard from my source that the deal of the day wasnt loaded on the back end, so steam broke.

They should just make Half-Life 3 the default for deal of the day if nothing else is chosen.

Think of all the money that is being saved now that Steam is down.

Billions and billions as Carl Sagan would put it.

It made me sad. :(

So... all those who believe the steam servers are currently being hacked, raise your hands.

It's possible? Anonymous did hit the CIA again the other day.

#30 Posted by granderojo (1897 posts) -

Went to go play SMNC, can't because the servers are down. Guess I'm going to go study like I should be right now for tests on tuesday.

#31 Posted by AndrewB (7782 posts) -

@Sweep: Thanks for putting that in my mind. Think I've had enough videogame and non-videogame related services hacked. Thankfully, so many of them means I tend not to save any credit card info (but who's to say that info still isn't on some server...).

#32 Edited by MentalDisruption (1741 posts) -

If this is the world's way of forcing me to study, I am not happy about it.

#33 Posted by MikkaQ (10296 posts) -

I think I can live without cloud saves and the store for a day.

#34 Posted by crusader8463 (14744 posts) -

Don't worry guys. I can still launch Jagged Alliance. No one has to die today.

#35 Posted by falling_fast (2546 posts) -

oh well, there is still gog. you can't make me do actual work, hackers, nyah.

I dont save my card to steam, so i wont have to change my card, but they are 1. being hacked, 2. Had server trouble. 3. Server maintenance at a weird time.

I find it hard to believe they would target Steam though.
#38 Posted by AndrewB (7782 posts) -

Intermittent "The Steam Store is experiencing heavy server load" errors, but at least that's something.

Why would anyone attack steam. I feel like a crack addict every time steam goes down i just start to get the shakes.

I'm in the same situation, but I don't have any tests...

I need my SMNC!

#41 Posted by Daveyo520 (7339 posts) -

@king0fprussia: No they didn't. They hit the CIA's website, which is nothing.

#42 Posted by MikesTooLz (3 posts) -

Look at the user drop off stats.

Shit.

#44 Posted by gelatinabomination (196 posts) -

I feel like Anonymous wouldn't dare hit Steam, but then I'm reminded that Anonymous is often comprised of a lot of dudes who want to watch the world burn. Not always, but it seems that way sometimes.

#45 Posted by Tobli (155 posts) -

Just got back into the store. Looks sort of odd when new releases and top sellers are blank

#46 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8734 posts) -

The one day I want to play something on Steam it goes down...nice.

#47 Posted by Subjugation (4786 posts) -

This is very, very strange. I hope it's just a hardware failure and not something malicious.

Weird, I still managed to launch the client and can still launch my games. Just can't use the store.

Fortunately, single player games will always work under offline mode ;)
