The Giant Bomb steamgifts.com Giveaway Thread

#1 Edited by Hamst3r (4481 posts) -

Hey, duder. Let's Steamgifts. Here's how it works:

1. Join the GB Giveaway Group:

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/tgbgg

The GB Gift Giveway group is for Upstanding Duders; meaning long-time GB members, premium members and highly-active members only. If you signed up within the last few months and have only a handful of posts, you're not getting in.

If you're an upstanding duder, message me or one of the group moderators via the GB PM system to get in!

Provide a link to your Steam Community profile! Like this: http://steamcommunity.com/id/hamsteralliance

Group Moderators:

2. Log on to steamgifts with your Steam account*:

http://www.steamgifts.com/

It's safe, yo. It connects through the Steam API, and checks what games are already in your account and if you're part of the GB Giveaway Group.

3. Join a raffle:

Just go to the Steamgifts site, click on one of the giveaways listed, and click the "Enter To Win!" button. Enter as many giveaways as you like, provided that you have enough points**.

4. Contribute:

Start your own giveaway on the Steamgifts site and set it to GB Group Only in the options. I suggest 2 to 3 days as the duration for a giveaway.

Give games, get games. Let's share the love.

FAQ - READ THESE THEY ARE ALSO IMPORTANT:

1. RE-SYNC: If you signed up to steamgifts before joining the GB Giveaway Group, after joining the group you can resync your account here

* 2. TUFF-E-NUFF: You need at least $100 worth of games in your Steam account to join Steamgifts.

** 3. POINTS? 1P = $1. You'll earn points over time, so just come back later if you don't have enough.

4. JUST THE BOMB: To filter Steamgifts so that you only see GB Giveaway Group giveaways, you'll need to install a browser add-on:

New hotness: Steamgifts Plus Old and busted: SG Enhancement.

5. MY BABIES: You cannot give away games that you have in your Steam Library. If it's in your library, it means you own it and that's permanent. To gift a game it must be something from your Steam Inventory or something that you just bought with the explicit purpose of giving away. Once a game is in your Library, it is no longer giftable.

Your account has been verified, with 207 games, valued at $1,839.63.

Well I'm already regretting this decision.
#3 Edited by UnrealDP (1222 posts) -

@LordXavierBritish: I don't even want to say mine, but I am already giving away a copy of Killing Floor as we speak, so maybe that'll make everything better, eh?

#4 Posted by dcgc (878 posts) -

I have a spare code for the Airmech beta. Can I give it away on SteamGifts?

#5 Posted by Danteveli (1177 posts) -

@dcgc:

Sadly no since they only allow Dota and CS beta. You can always give it to me :)

#6 Posted by Hamst3r (4481 posts) -

@dcgc: I don't see AirMech in the list of giftable games on the steamgifts site, so I don't think that one will work. But in general, anything that can be redeemed or bought on Steam should be giftable.

I'm giving away Terraria right now but I also have a copy of Dungeon Defenders and Orion: Dino Beatdown that i'll be putting up later.

Here's a link.

#8 Posted by mscupcakes (612 posts) -

This is a really good idea, hopefully we won't see as many individual steam gifting threads with people begging for games now.

Let's keep this giveaway train goin'.

#10 Posted by HarlechQuinn (448 posts) -

@LordXavierBritish: You are not alone... "Your account has been verified, with 208 games, valued at $2,176.94."...

Nevertheless I joined the group and created a giveaway for Torchlight.

#11 Posted by zyn (2591 posts) -

Cool idea.

#12 Posted by Jaqen_HGhar (886 posts) -

I opened one up for two copies of Dungeon Defenders. 'cause you need to play that with friends!

Oh, and is there an easy way to see all raffles open for our group only? Never used Steamgifts before.

67 games valued at 731 dollars? Awwww... I'm a noob.

No wait there's some kind of points system? How does it work?

so the 10p or 4p or 30p next to the the title of these is that just saying how much each game being given is worth in pounds?

no don't think so, i think it's just the currency you have to enter giveaways.

Apparently ou need $100 worth of games to sign up, and I only have $93. Shit.

This is going to be very useful around Christmas, but there is something fun about sending out PMs and such...

Can us Mac users get in on this?

Opened one up for Torchlight as well, but how do you view giveaways by group only.

Also created one for Dota 2

#24 Posted by Im_a_Wizard (51 posts) -

I have 59.98 yaaaaay. Do I win?

#25 Posted by Subjugation (4720 posts) -

It's always an appropriate time for Steam giveaways.

#26 Edited by Mendelson9 (402 posts) -

This is a cool idea. Is their any way to just see a list of current givaways in the Giant Bomb Steam group or are we just posting here when we have a new game to give?

NEW GIVEAWAY The Binding of Isaac

I think I also have unused steam codes for the Humble Bundle games. If you PM me your steam ID i'll give you the code, as long as you don't aready own more than 1 of these games. 1 bundle per person please. EDIT: All gone, thanks duders.

Humble Indie Bundle #3 includes Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, Hammerfight and And Yet It Moves

Humble Indie Bundle #2 includes Braid, Machinarium, Osmos, Cortex Command, and Revenge of the Titans

Unfortunately not. Group giveaways are regarded as "invite-only" private giveaways, so they don't get grouped together anywhere.

@AjayRaz said:

Click on one of the giveaway links in this thread and click "enter to win". :3

@Hizang said:

I think so! Steam offers Mac games, so it should be possible to gift them.

@hussatron said:

It'd be cool if the OP added all of the giveaways to the original post, maybe in a table with the username of the giver and the game name. Keeping it up to date would get annoying pretty quick though, I'm sure.

I thought about that, but I think if we all keep to a 2 to 3 day duration for the giveaways, if you look at a post that's older than 3 days, it's safe to assume it's inactive.

#28 Posted by MikkaQ (10284 posts) -

Holy shit, there is no way I've spent that much on PC games. Guess I get a lot of stuff on sale. STILL.... that's a gross number to see.

Anyway, yeah joined up. Sounds fun. If I buy bundle packs and get gift copies I'll be sure to throw them up there.

I guess I deleted my comment as you were typing out your reply, but yeah, I thought about it after leaving the comment and decided it might be better to just keep it as is. Anyway, I think this was a great idea and hopefully I can contribute a game soon.

Thank you for posting a forum topic about this group! Being part of the public giveaways, I'll be the first to say it's not user-friendly (at least to me). I have roughly 830 games entered, none won so far.

#45 Edited by hussatron (189 posts) -

Well, I've used up all the points I have for now entering Giant Bomb only giveaways. Thanks everyone! Hopefully I'll be able to put up a game for a giveaway soon (something that comes in a pack of 4 most likely).

#46 Edited by Kill (298 posts) -

Two copies of The Ship up for grabs! Good luck everyone!

#47 Edited by Murtaug (308 posts) -

I have two giveaways going for Giant Bomb group members.

First up are two copies of The Ship, this one ends in two hours, whoops. Only six entries so still good odds if you want in.

The second giveaway is for a copy of Monday Night Combat, yeah you can go play the free two play Super Monday Night Combat, but the original is still a lot of fun and hey, it could be free for you too!

Also the statistic of my game library consisting of 399 games at an estimated value of $5,282 blew my mind. Sheesh.
