I've been playing SFA3 online with the MAME32k64 emulator for a couple of weeks now.

Does anyone know if there's a way to play online P2P, instead of on a server, so as to reduce lag?

No idea mate, your best bet is to ask on Shory. I have never played the game online myself. I do own the Dreamcast For Matching Service Version, which was online in Japan at the time, as well as the normal Japanese version, because it's got the sweetest SF cover ever imo :P
