Interest check: Community tournaments?

#1 Edited by ThePhantomnaut (6185 posts) -

Hey guys I am planning on holding a community tournament for 3rd Strike Online Edition in the very near future. Previously I coordinated a 3S GGPO tourney prior to OE's release. Although it was small turnout, the participation was completely awesome. It convinced me to do another.

Generally here is my question to you guys... Are you guys down for tournaments?

Specifically, I will attempt to do one even if I am really limited by the game's programmed ruleset for matches. I have interest in doing a month long ranking tournament battle if a couple of regular ones succeed. Also down the line is that I am also thinking of doing 2v2 teams or even special matches such as character vs character teams or even region vs region. In the upcoming tourney, I also aim for prizes even if it will only accommodate 1st place only.

Would you guys wanna compete?

Thanks!

Oh yeah, for the upcoming one, I need assistance from people who can record matches and coordinate the PS3 side as I only have a 360.

I'd totally be down for a 3s tournament. Sign me up!

While I wouldn't be interested in playing (PS3) I would be willing to help coordinate things on the PS3 side, as it bums me out that this site only seems to have a good community for SF4 and I would be willing to do whatever to change that.

If I somehow scrape together an extra $15 somehow I'll pick up the superior 360 version and participate.

I am absolutely terrible but if the timing is OK for me then I would definitely make up numbers for the first round. I play on the 360.

I am still terrible with Urien and getting used to his charges....so yes I'm interested in quality matches. I'm not playing with my friends nearly as much as I need to, then again I'm not on so it's not really their fault.

Ranked matches are really dreadful where I sit there and wait for 15 minutes and then when a match does pop-up a quarter of the matches has a guy with absolutely terrible internet and he teleports and jitters around the screen.

However school just started on me and the weekend and Friday evenings are always busy, but some Monday, Tuesday and Thursday tournaments and some Friday tournaments in the middle of the day? Count me in. I'm in Southern California if it matters for time zones and such.

EDIT: I'm on the 360 if it matters.

I want to have both consoles but I just need aid from PS3 players to take care of it. I want to also add another issue is that tournament mode for both consoles don't support host spectating so I can't just watch every bracket myself unless I wanna lower the turnout which I have not decided on a maximum yet.

Theres a much easier way to do things if you insist on watching matches and that is just to do lobbies for each match and spectate. Besides, tournament mode doesn't allow for 2 out 3, and I don't see why that shouldn't be part of the rules. Its tempting to use tournament mode because of how easily it gets things done but if you're willing to put in a bit of effort things can go a lot better IMO.

Just my two cents.

@ricetopher: Actually it does, but yeah, I think going lobby style is probably the better option anyway.

I'd also like to take part. I am however European, in school and on the 360 so there's that.

Just checked the rulesets, and there is in fact 2/3 matches as a ruleset, so that was an error on my part

The big problem is that it's 60 seconds per round instead of the usual 99. I might consider the player match lobbies, it seems more beneficial.

If there is a 360 tournament, I will get a subscription to Xbox live.

Yeah the 60 second rule sucks. Player lobbies would work best.

Oh yeah prizes can include Microsoft points and PSN redeemable cards. If you guys live in Europe, I will talk to Vito about having his giveaway games as an alternative.

I am up for it for the PS3 version

#22 Edited by ThePhantomnaut (6185 posts) -

So far, I will likely be doing player matches for this in groups of six players per bracket. That leaves two extra spots for moderation and even someone saving the replays. I wanna avoid uploading straight to YouTube so if anybody can record them and compile them together, that would be awesome.
