Wow, so yeah, a lot more counterpunchers and combo savvy people in G2.  I think my game needs some improvement.

    Descriptive topic.

How so do you need to improve? Against cross-ups? Jump-ins? ETC?

Who's you lose to? A Ken? A Balrog? A Seth? These are all important things to know :P. Study on your enemies. Learn how characters work.

Hey, so wow, lots of venom.  Not really sure where that came from; I was watching a couple episodes of Lost.  I use Cammy and got my ass handed to me by a couple of Sagats and Balrogs.  The biggest difference is that the fighters I faced were patient, waiting for me to make a move and countering it.  The higher you go, the more experience the players have, obviously, so you can't really rely on the stupid mistakes that you see early on.  I understand that the learning curve gets steeper and steeper as the competition gets better, and I'm prepared to put in the time.

But geez guys, way to pounce.

edit: ok, that was a bit harsh.  I was just reacting to getting my ass handed to me very badly.  I didn't actually rage quit, as I have no idea how to cancel out of a match, other than shutting down my console.

@skrutop: Trust me, people are garbage no matter what grade you are in. I have 35,000 points and people still suck, despite the many hours it took to get to G1. You just need to adapt to the new style of shittyness that is in G2, there will be new tactics but the horrible players will soon show their faces. My first couple days in G1 was an anal raping, now I am surprised when I don't make it to the final match.

And don't rage quit unless you truly want to make your opponent feel like they fucked your shit up so bad you could not handle it anymore.

@Stang: Your definition of garbage is like Steven Hawkings definition of stupid.

If you playing Cammy im guessing your Spiral arrowing all over the place, which used to work, but now they block, and have loads of frames to punish you. It'll feel like you need to do something when both characters are standing there, but DONT, move forward to the max range of your pokes, maybe try and bait out a dash punch or SRK. Play smart.

@Plasma: Nah, my definition of garbage is fairly typical. Blackhawkxdown....dude is garbage. People with 50k points who throw fireballs recklessly at Abel or Chun when they have ultra....garbage. People who miss there combos all the time are just not that good, idiots who have played the game hundreds of hours and still make retarded crackhead mistakes = garbage. In my experience there is a lot of garbage out there.

Good point sir. I will now create an altar dedicated to my soon to be SG Ken god (ain't that shit ridiculous???) in hopes I can mash srk's through every blockstring that comes my way. My new goal in life is to be the final guy he beats in G1 before moving up to SG. It is only appropriate.

I completely agree. Some of us have a hell of an easier time accruing points then others though. I bet bitchhawkxdown has 1500+ hours to get to that point.

Sounds good.  Gamertag's screwtop.   I promise not to rage quit either.  Honestly, I don't know how to disconnect mid-match.  Usually I take my beating until the end of the match, my controller then takes my beating, and I turn off my Xbox and walk away for awhile.

@Plasma: I never really spammed the Spiral Arrow that much, though I'm quickly finding out its limitations.  At least most of the Gouken's I've faced haven't figured out that it goes under their fireballs.  If anything, I overdo the Cannon Spike when the opponent's jumped past its range, or trying to cross-up with the Cannon Strike.  A lot more people are crossing me up, which is good for learning but bad for my ego at present, and they're much better at timing and faking with the focus attacks.  I rarely faced any decent FA usage in G3.

Heh, I decided to pop in this game and play some online matches for the first time in a few months.  I quickly realized why I had stopped playing in the first place... I won I think one match out of the ten or so I played.  I didn't rage quit though!.... I just let the obscenities fly until I realized that anyone still in my building would probably be worried by that point so I took the game out, put it in it's case, and buried it under all my other games just as it was before.

I'm the very definition of average when it comes to this game. Sure, I can rock a newbie Ken's world but a skilled Vega can bring me down in seconds flat. I stopped taking the games seriously now and just play to watch an interesting battle on my television. Every now and then, I get into the fight and tense up but that's a very rare "now and then."

just grab some GTs from here and start playing player matches with people.  Even if you get your ass kicked repeatedly, which you will, you won't get as many bad habbits out of it.  You also learn more from 10 matches with the same person than you will from 50 fights with random fighters of varying skill.

I played a few 5 round matches, and I can see what you mean.  Once the two players learn each other's tendencies in the first couple of rounds, you spend the rest of the fight trying to exploit them and change up tactics.  Way more fun than getting destroyed by one Sagat, just to face another who has no idea what he's doing.

Speaking of which, is Sagat the new Ken or something?  He's pretty much all I face anymore.

You will find *everyone* knows that cammy can't do much to crouch blockers, has garbage for footsies, and the worst focus break in the game.  Not only do they know that, they'll abuse the holy hell out of it.  The better the player, the better that knowledge helps them.  A couple things:

Whiffing cannon spikes happens.  Try and limit your use of it in a match as best you can.  Its a strong tool so we all have a tendency to use it a *lot*.  But its a double edged sword, because it so much more punishable than a shoto lp SRK.   If you throw it out less, and can hit it on reaction to a poor jumpin, you'll have more success.

Crossup cannon strike doesn't work, as it cannot land as a crossup and continue a combo.  You can land CS from the air and be thrown before you recover (or worse).  This is a hard habbit to break, I have it and still do it sometimes when I know I shouldn't.  Cannon strike out of the air should only be used very very late(deep) when it can actually combo, or to clear fireballs (lk CStrike changes your trajectory dramatically, and can be confusing to people).  If you're fast, you can use it out of blockstrings to try and score a cheap combo when someone isn't paying attention, but this RARELY works online.  people mash reversal SRK into blockstrings anyway, no use in giving them that extra second to hit it.

The specific way to abuse cannon strike out of the air is off of either a backthrow, or a hooligan combination throw.  In this situation jumping into the air and doing CStrike has a mixup cross *over* potential.  HK Cstrike done at the peak of the jump will clear the opponent, landing behind them, and mk or lk (mk is more ambiguous) will land in front of them.  in either case the mixup is started, and you can apply pressure with B&B link combos, additional throws, and TKCS mixups.  the HK cs and MK cs from these two throws are very ambiguous, and if you condition someone out of reversal SRK, the mixup done 2-3 times can be really powerful, ending in dizzies, throws etc.

Finally, ignore focus attack from anything other than mk poke range or closer.  Dont try anything except EX hooligan or backdash from that range.  If you're close, a HK SA can break it sometimes, or a quick throw.  There's really no way to keep people from abusing focus with cammy, so try and discourage it with a few hooligans early if you can and work from there.

Edit:  Dont forget that big characters like Sagat are the easiest to hit with frame-trap hooligan throws, and that fireball characters can be baited into double fireball strings 9or even throw out a meaty wakeup fireball) and eat an ultra now and then from it.  ;)

Do me a huge favor, bro. Keep my name, out of of your mouth.  Onto something more relevant:  G2 can be a pain in the ass. A lot of people use dirty tricks, especially those in G2-A, 'cause they are so close to getting to G1, they will do anything to win. The only advice I'll give is go heavy on the defense, and you'll probably end up winning more than you might think. "
You don't get to tell me what to do, bro.

G2 is not that hard, just like any pool of players, there are good ones and bad ones. What "dirty tricks" are you talking about, Napalm? Also I'm pretty sure what section(G2-A, G2-B, etc.) you're in has nothing to do with what you're willing to do to win. It's silly to think that someone with 2000 points is trying less then someone with 12000.

Actually, I've been slowly getting better.  I can consistently get to the semi's, sometimes finals.  But a lot of the G2-A's still murder me pretty handily.  I've started to figure out what attacks (at what strengths) to use against certain foes.  I still have a ton of trouble with Balrog and Guile.  Ryu's getting a bit trickier as well.

I wish you'd find something better to do than walk around this forum with a cocky attitude and mocking me every chance you get. If you haven't noticed, you're really the only one who does it as much as you do. If you have some weird obsessive attitude with me, just tell me, so I can call you a creepy fuck. "
Napalm, stop giving me reasons to mock you and I will. If you start promoting rage-quitting and lying about xbox live why wouldn't I say something? You're the one who replied to me here, I didn't start anything.

Yeah, definitely true, though I don't really believe in "dirty tricks," as anything's fair game when it comes to winning.  I'm finding that the tricks have changed, but it's all tricks.  Once I figure out how to get around a particular trick, I tend to be able to beat the people I face off against.  I definitely have some weaknesses against G-2 (especially their use of focus attacks, which I simply have little experience against).  But once I see what they're up to, I can generally take someone down...except for Balrog.  That dude's a beast.
