And my question is regarding ultra combos, specifically Abel's.
I'm hitting the button combination correctly, but nothing happens.
It either executes the super combo, or it does the first blow of the change of direction move.
Is there something i'm doing wrong?

Hmm thats a tough one, my favourite guy to use it Honda but Zangeif just looks so great, he's such an over the top sterotype and him shouting "FOR MOTHER RUSSIA" when he does his ultra is just the iceing on the cake

Although I don't use him in SFIV my favorite character has always been ken. As for your question I would assume that sometimes your not hitting all three of the punch buttons at the same time your hitting 2 of them just a little bit before the last one.
 
@End_Boss:  Thats not entirely correct your can do weak, strong, and fierce versions of supers. Ultras are used by doing whaterer motion then pressing all three punch or all three kick buttons.

If it's executing the Super Combo, you're either hitting the wrong punch button or don't have your Revenge meter high enough. Remember, Supers are triggered by light or medium punches, Ultras are triggered by Fierce only. "

Design and personality wise, I love Zangief; however I can barely pull off his 360 command throws, let alone his 720's so I rarely use him.
I main Akuma though, although I'm still terrible.

T-Hawk, such a fucking awesome character and a shame that the was not in Street Fighter 4.

I love Gouken, but ive never played a street fighter game.

I like the mix it up a lot who I play with. But as I usually say when times get tough I fall back on Ryu.

I use Cammy, but Fei Long is my favorite character.  His ultra is so cool.

Sagat, Gen and Guile are my favourite characters although I don't play as any of them. They're just very interesting characters and have engaging stories and motives.

Ibuki is my all-time favorite Street Fighter character, and I've only played Third Strike maybe twice.

Viper, she's just so unlike any other character in 4.

Ken,always has been and probably always will be.

No question, Abel.  I just really like what he brings to the game.  His moveset is super interesting to me in that he is, in a lot of ways, a mixture of Fei Long and Zangief.  However, with his roll move, he has a great tool that neither Fei nor Gief possess, a way to effectively control horizontal space that does double duty as a useful cross-up tool.

1st Main, Sagat: "YEAH ALRIGHT LET'S DO THIS SHIT!!" *2 months go by* "FUCK Sagat, overpowered P.O.S."
2nd Main, Balrog: "..hey! This guy's pretty kickass!" "...ok I'm bored."
3rd Main, Ryu: "Simple enough, has pretty good combos." 
4th Main, M. Bison: "fuck it, I'm going BISON BITCHEZ" *actually got above average with bison* "SHIT YEAH!! ^______^" 
 
So yeah, I have lost all the skill I had with Sagat, still decent with 'Rog, have gotten worse with Ryu because of so much Bison, and Bison just kicks ass XD.

That's because she got fucked over in SFIV. In every game she's been in, with the exception of SFIV, she's been top tier. I had planned to main her before the game came out, but man, when she came out to be second to last tier, you know something went horribly wrong.  On that note, my favorite character... Rose is my Fav.  I play Balrog though, he's a solid character all round
