Who else find this move rediculous. Also how do you get passed it if you can.

Play Fuerte. Been a while since I've played a 'Gief online, but I believe his heavy sliding kick from the dash goes through it, as well as both the medium and heavy punch (the slam and the grab, respectively)- this works particularly well off a wall. I've yet to lose to a Zangief online with Fuerte. Not sure how much help that is, though, since no one really plays him.

Oh, and if you get him on the ground, back-dash into the heavy punch to do the spinny thing as soon as he wakes up. That should go through it as well.

Well, since I can throw Tiger Shots pretty fast now, whenever a 'Gief tries to Lariat through my first fireball, the second and third always get him.

Never jump on a Zangief, only when you're both in the air.

sweeps are your best friend aginst a lariat happy zangiefs.

Jump neutral and punch/kick

I just faught a couple Geifs but I still got smoked. It is true that I am still a noob at the game but I learning with Akuma since he is pretty accessable. I have some awesome 5 to 6 hit combos down but that lariat gets me everytime still. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I have come to the conclusion that I could face Daigo and use Zangiefs lariat over and over again and win, maybe perfect him one round. There is no way to beat it.

I play with E. Honda so I usually beat him using a lot of high hard kicks and headbutting him before and after he uses that move. I actually hardly lose to Zangief. I find I usually have the better match up on people who use him pretty well.

Say what you will about the move...It's an excellent way to beat the challenge modes...And get the uber difficult achievement involving the hardest difficulty and defeating Gouken...

Its annoying when you jump into it but hey M.Bisons hard kick is good against it,The fuerte one was mentioned too and Cannon Spike is amazing against it if youre not jumping too much.

Demon flip, and sweep are your friend as Akuma.

I'm a Blanka player, and I've yet to lose to a 'geif player online.  All I do is use the roll attack (charge donw, forward + kick) which hits 'geif abouve the lariet.  Anyone who spams it against me just gets punished, and from experiance, any 'geif player without the lariet, isn't that great.

My strategy for Zangief is to get in and land a few quick punches/kicks then jump away, it usually works.

its one of the easiest things to get by.

Gief Lariat spammers think you cant just walk over to him and click his feet. Ive beaten so many Gief players by simply walking over, crouching and hitting fierce kick.
