Play as one of four fighters as you attempt to save Adam from the evil clutches of Mr. X in this side-scrolling beat 'em up classic, with a classic soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro.
Overview
Streets of Rage 2 (Bare Knuckle 2 in Japan) is a side-scrolling fighter released on December 20, 1992. It was developed by Ancient, H.I.C., and Shout! Designworks and published by Sega. The game follows on from the breakout success of the original and puts the player back in the shoes of cops Axel and Blaze, as they attempt to rescue their friend Adam from the clutches of the mysterious Mr. X. Joining them for the ride are newcomers Max, a hulking former wrestler, and Skate, Adam's younger brother. The game has been released on several platforms: Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Sega Master System, Virtual Console, arcade (on the Sega Genesis-based Mega Play hardware) and Xbox Live Arcade. The game was also released in a few compilation titles: Sega Smash Pack on the Sega Dreamcast and the Japanese version of Sonic Gems Collection for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. In addition to all of these ports, the game is available on GameTap.
Gameplay
The game is a traditional side-scroller and is most comparable to Final Fight both thematically and graphically. Each of the four characters have their own unique move sets and special moves.Axel is the game's most well rounded character, making him a good choice for newcomers. Blaze has a good combination of speed and technique, allowing players to hit multiple enemies at a time. Max is slow but powerful. Skate is the quickest of all the characters, but is also the least powerful.
The game can be played either in single player or with two players. Interestingly enough, attacking each other is allowed. A two player Duel mode is also implemented into the game; essentially it is player versus mode akin to Street Fighter.
The game isn't particularly long, with most players finishing it in a span of a few hours, although this is an arcade-style game, so the length is great by the standards of that time. On harder difficulties the player may go through lives fairly quickly, as more and more enemies crowd the screen at once. To help balance things out, weapons return from the original and range from the classic baseball bat, the swords, pipes, knifes and even grenades. However, the weapons handle differently depending on who is using them. For example, Max will swing a metal pipe with ease, issuing pain to enemies both in front and behind in one swing. Skate on the other hand will take much longer to swing the weapon, and his animation even shows that he has trouble doing this.
Levels
The game offers eight stages in total, spanning a diverse range of environments, from alleyways to beaches, ballparks to factories. Each level ends in a boss fight, each one unique and deadly, expect to lose one or two lives trying to bring them down. However it's not just the bosses that are impressive; there is a good variety of foes to fight, all with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Round 1: Downtown - This particular level begins on the streets of a town. Eventually, it leads to a bar, and then the boss of the level; Barbon.
Round 2: Bridge - A dangerous bridge that is under construction. The bridge is filled to the brim with bikers. The boss of this level is Jet, a flying boss who zooms around the stage with a jetpack.
Round 3: Amusement Park - The third level begins in the park grounds, and then quickly transitions to arcades. Then, a haunted house area with fake fog and dangerous enemies hiding in it; including the mysterious boss.
Round 4: Baseball Stadium - The fourth level is a baseball stadium. On the pitcher's mound is a secret elevator that takes the player to an underground fighting ring where the boss of the fourth level is located.
Round 5: Ship - In the fifth level, the player is located on a ship. The player must fight through waves of enemies on the cargo decks, and then bikers on the main deck.
Round 6: Jungle - Now on Mr. X's private island, the player has to fight through both a beach and a jungle; both are filled with a wide variety of dangerous foes.
Round 7: Munitions Plant - Finally in the factory, the player must fight the way through a factory filled with conveyor belts. Upon arriving at an elevator, the player makes it to the roof.
Round 8: Syndicate Stronghold - Just like in the original game, all of the bosses previously faced must be fought here. Upon defeating them, the player finally makes it to the goal: Mr. X.
Characters
Max Thunder

Max Thunder is a former professional wrestler, and old friend of Axel and Adam. When Axel tells Max about Adam's kidnapping, Max gets ready for battle. Max uses a variety of powerful wrestling moves, including the most powerful attack in the game: Atomic Drop.
Max is the slowest of all of the characters and cannot vault himself over enemies, instead he must grab the enemy from the side he wants to attack from.Stats

Axel Stone
Axel is a former police officer. He helped Adam and Blaze defeat Mr. X in the first Streets of Rage. He decides to partner up with his old friends one more time when he finds out about Adam's kidnapping. Axel is similar to Blaze in that he is fairly well-balanced, but he is more strength then speed.

Sammy "Skate" Hunter
Skate is Adam's younger brother. When Skate found out about Mr. X's plan to kidnap Adam, he quickly strapped on his rollerblades and met up with two former police officers who knew his brother: Blaze and Axel. He is the weakest of all of the characters, but he is also the fastest. His rollerblades give him extra speed and the ability to dash; they also allow him to deal out quick and deadly combos.

Enemies
Galsia
This is the "lowest rank" of enemy. He will be found in many forms throughout the game. He is the weakest thug. Any character should have no trouble with him; even Skate can quickly dispatch him.
0
Another one of the most common enemies that will faced. He is more powerful than Galsia, and has more health. At higher difficulties they have an anti-air attack, so it is best to be careful around them.

Jack is first encountered at the end of the first part of the first level, before entering the bar; therefore, he is a mini-boss. He uses knives as his weapons. If the player is standing at a distance in front of him, it is best to be cautious, because he will throw knives at anyone who wanders in his path.

Barbon is the round one boss. You see him in the last part of the bar leaving outside. Not really happy that your jacking fools in the face that also happen to be his customers. He wants you to step off but instead of talking he just wants to beat the crap out of you. He will appear multiple times as a mini boss

These guys will first be encountered in the truck in Stage 2. They have a short range fireball move which is reminiscent to Guy's forward, forward attack move from the Final Fight series. They also will appear sometimes out of nowhere. If you see a shadow on the floor and hear the loud "cheha!" sound be careful. If you position yourself properly as Axel you can use your Grand Upper (forward forward B) to knock them out of the air.

Jet is first encountered as the boss of Round 2. He has a wide variety of moves One include picking the character up, flying up, and slamming the character to the floor. Ideal characters/moves for defeating them are Blaze/Axel/Skates, forward, forward, punch move. Axel's neutral air also works well. He will appear in most other rounds as mini-boss type character instead of Round 6 where he will appear as one half of the boss.

Your first encounter with these guys will be in the haunted house section of Round 3. You will be walking along and see one hanging on the wall trying to be stealthy. He is not fooling anyone with that bright blue suit. These guys often have katanas or little throwing daggers. On higher difficulties they will become one of the most common enemies from round 4 onwards.

Vehilits is a mini-boss from the end of the haunted house section of Round 3. He is easier then most enemies that have already encountered. The ideal character for fighting him is Axel, because his Grand Upper move, if used at the right time, can hit multiple times. Also hidden at the bottom left during the fight with Vehelits is a 1-Up. Just walk to the bottom and press the attack button a lot. He only appears once in the entire game.

He is first seen as a boss from Round 3. Together, Jet and Zamza will make up the Round 6 boss fight. If at a distance he will do a move similar to Blanka from Street Fighter in which he charges with electricity while curled up in a ball. Skate is best for handling this character by using his Dynamite Headbutt.

Big Ben is first encountered in Round 4 on the pitcher's mound, but before the elevator. If he is hit off of the screen, be careful, because from off the screen they can do their belly flop move or their fire breath. They, like most of the enemies, will appear multiple times in harder forms.

Abadede
Is the boss of Round 4. You will end up in a stadium when you get off of the elevator. He has amazing strength and he can break all of your grabs. It is usually impossible to get a grab on him or even get close to him for that matter. He is often regarded as the hardest boss. But here is a little secret. As Axel if you jump towards him and do your down attack (the weird knee thing, like hes posing for some magazine on the beach) into him. This move has no knock back so you will land right on him probably already in a grab. If you can go for a back grab and just slamm him to the ground. This is the easiest strategy. You will see him again in Round 8. Kind of like Zangief?

Kickboxer
The kick boxer enemies are first encountered on the boat in round 5. They all have names after birds like condor. Condor, thats bad ass. Anyway these guys can be somewhat of a hassle but the best way to handle them would be Skate's Dynamite Headbutt. It can attack multiple at once without them attacking you and its just the best move against them. Kind of like Sagat?

R. Bear
R.Bear is encountered as the boss of Round 5. He is hard. All characters work equally well/terrible against him and specials are the best/worst moves against him. Yep your on your own. In round 8 you fight Bear JR. which I assume to be his son who is out for revenge for you killing his father. Kind of like Balrog?

The Robots named Oxygen and Particle are the bosses of Round 7. They will be seen again in the beginning of Round 8. They have many types of moves, and are hard to hit. They have far-ranged lasers, and spiked ball and chains, which are annoying and make it almost impossible to get close to them.

Shiva is a bastard. He is Mr. X's right hand man and he is the last boss fight you will have just seconds before the final boss fight against Mr. X himself. He is extremely fast and extremely powerful. Just look for openings in his attacks and be careful with your specials.

Mr. X
Finally, now instead of just Chillin' in the background Mr.X will finally come out to fight you. Only problem is hes not one who understands the meaning of fair fight. He uses a GUN! And hes not afraid to kill his own men to make sure he kills you too. He will stand on top of the screen and start shooting towards the actual screen area shooting from left to right. No area is safe. You cannot jump over the bullets or run through em you either gotta get up quick so you can hit Mr.X or go below a enemy and let him take the shots. When you get within range of Mr. X hit him immediately because at a certain point he will just use the gun and hit you with it knocking you down. He is not a particularly hard boss fight and he doesn't have too much health so you should be good. Make sure you do the last hit while hes in the center of the screen or just make sure you know he will land somewhere on screen where you can see him to see his dieing animation.
