Since the Barcelona Olympic Summer Games in 1992, every 4 years a video game has been released which coincides with the coverage of the games on TV.

The video games mainly focus on the track and field events however previous games have also had other events such as Swimming, Diving, Canoeing, Skeet Shooting and Archery.

Games based on the Summer Olympics are generally button mashers, requiring the player to tap buttons in quick succession in order to make the athlete on screen run or swim faster.
