It's been 25 years since Mario first hit the scene and creator Nintendo is poised to celebrate the iconic plumber's anniversary by selling us a game it has already released in Japan. Yes, as expected, Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition is coming to the US. And it's hitting December 12 for the Wii, according to a recent Nintendo press release.

All-Stars Limited Edition ships with a soundtrack CD that has both old and new music from several of the releases in the series. It also comes with a 32-page booklet that contains interviews and art, and of course, a game disc that contains the following four classic Mario games: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

What's the price, you ask? Hey, thanks, I'm glad you did. All-Stars Limited Edition will cost 30 bones, and will apparently be restricted to a limited release. Nintendo has cautioned that the game will only be on shelves "while supplies last," so get on the ball already.

That's pretty sleek, but I'm sad they didn't go full-hog on this. SMB, SMB2 (and LL), SMB3, SMW, MW2:YI,, and NSMB would have made an amazing updated All-Star game. Oh well, still pretty neat.

So will these be the versions of the games that were in the SNES version of All Stars? With the updated graphics and everything?

    No Super Mario World?
Actually thinking about it Super Mario World is one of the two games I actually bought on Virtual Console already, so I'm good.

The red box is kinda nice though, I guess.

I still have my copy of Super Mario All Stars for SNES, so looks this one is a no go for me. But if you don't have that or are just really interested in owning a set like this, then this is probably a good buy.

So wait...$30 for a game I already have on SNES and an art book / soundtrack?  I like Mario as much as the next person, but if you already own the old one and have a working SNES, this is a ripoff.

I already have those 4 games as well as Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 on VC though, and the side stuff doesn't seem that interesting either.

I agree with others.  They should've added Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island and Super Mario 64.  Then they could've charged around $40 and it would've been awesome.

Not a great deal in my eyes.  You are pretty much paying for some fancy packaging.  I guess it would be good for collectors who want to keep it sealed.

Pretty much agree.  I would have bought this if they had put more behind it but because it is little more than the original Mario All Stars from the SNES but wrapped in a fancy box... well... I think I will pass.

Cool.  They never released All-Stars on the virtual console (just each game individually), and the majority of the people who are buying this will do so for neat extras like the soundtrack and booklet.  Seems like a good deal to me!

Stop asking for things already released on the VC.  That's the point.  All-Stars was never going to come to the VC (as it would negate their prior NES releases) so this is an acceptable and understandable product.

Yes, this is all of the NES Mario games updated to SNES graphics, being ported to the Wii.  Most of the money is for all the sweet dorky extra stuff.

At least they put in the effort for a small art book and soundtrack, but there's no way I'm paying $30 for a port of Super Mario All-Stars.  Throw in a 90 minute, behind-the-scenes film about the history of Mario and I might be interested.

Seriously, this is like 10 MB of data on a Wii disc. The only reason they won't give it to us on a hand-held, is because they know it'll sell like hotcakes, and they're saving it for when they need the cash.

You know why this is a good idea?   Because there is tangible items.  I have a hard time buying Mario 3 on Wii as a download because I don't actually get anything.  As a collector, this is easily worth $30 if not more.  Already Pre-ordered.

I bought this 17 years ago when it was called Super Mario All Stars for the Super NES. The GBA versions of each game are superior to this, so I think I'll be sticking with those. Don't waste your money on this.

Would you pay for a more extensive (and expensive) Mario 25th Anniversary Collection?  One that actually celebrated everything Mario's accomplished in the last quarter-century?

I already have all those games on the Virtual Console (as well as the other Super Mario games), but I don't know, I might just have to get it for the extras and the fact that it's the All-Stars version of the games.

I have to agree with the others. It would of been better if they included more games in this package. If you were to buy these four games off the virtual console it would only cost $20, so yes this is more of the "collectors edition."

You know, I think it is put simply and justly; Collectors, limited edition. A tiny red box mario isn't a bad thing, however, a new Mario all stars with all the fixings ... maybe 50 years down the road eh? Just glad USA collectors get a bit of the NinTen love.

Um...I already have this game on the SNES. This would be more interesting if they did my idea - to create a crazy package with tons of audiovisual and gameplay settings - original 8-bit, weird artsy, New Super Mario Bros.-esque, All-Stars, etc. etc. They could get some "I Am 8-Bit" artists on board.

But a SNES game on disc for $30? No thank you.

I'd rather have this with World on the DS, to be honest.  Something about sitting down on a couch in front of a TV to play Super Mario Bros. doesn't sound quite as appealing now as it did 25 years ago.
