I'm not a Wii, or Nintendo hater and feel Mario is one of the most important characters and franchises in gaming history, but come on a perfect score? i dont want to bring attention to the review itself, but can you reward a retread for adding new levels opposite something that never has been done with a higher review score? As an example, as i watched the QL for RDR it made me want to call off work and go get that game pronto, as opposed to the new Mario, as i watched the review, i was like ok, looks good and fun.
Now before all the hate begins, think about this:
What game deserves more recognition something with excellent sound, level design, originality, game play and story, or something with the same characters, sound and graphics, and of course same story for the past 20 years?

What are you talking about? The fact that they spat out new and challenging and original ideas and concepts and things to do literally every 5 minutes was one of the major praises of SMG and now even more, SMG2. Stop talking nonsense. 
 
If you are even remotely interested in platforming games, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a must-buy and the reviewer couldn't find any flaws in the game. How can you be pissed that it got a higher score than your new favorite explosions-game?

It's not just Nintendo that gets ridiculous scores from time to time.  I wouldn't put this blame on SMG2 or even IGN.  It's a fault of 'scoring' games altogether.  That fault also lies with gamers for making more out of scores than they should.  When you really think about it, people are idiots for caring about game scores at all.
 
These are completely arbitrary numbers, how can they possible equate to value.  Sites only use them because it helps to get them hits, but it's really a really weak tactic in terms of journalistic integrity.

GTA4 didn't deserve a 10/10, neither did MGS4.  If you think those were deserved, you have no say here.

Unbelievable! How dare they give a perfect score to *game_name* when I have a mug that says "World's Best Husband!" so that obviously means I'm better! a game has to be reviewed based upon its own ambitions.  smg2 and rdr set out to do completely different things.

And yet another reason why reviews shouldn't have scores: because it causes bullshit kneejerk reactions such as the OP.

This just sounds to me like a "The game I love didn't get as high of a score as a game that I have a predisposition towards not liking" type of complaint.
 
Both are good games.  4 stars isn't bad.  Besides, it's the reviewer's opinion and you probably should just take it with a grain of salt anyways.  No need to start outraged forum threads about it.

IIT: people  complaining about someone else's OPINION  on a game that they havent played themselves yet.  look the game is great, everything Nintendo puts out is TOP TIER stuff. DEAL WITH IT!  what not enough SHOOTIN AND KILLIN for you?

No one wants to think the game they paid 60 bucks for was a bad move, especially comparing it to Mario... which is only $50.
 
RDR could of gotten a 9.9 and SMG2 still got a 10... people would still rage over it...

Super Mario Galaxy has the same sound and graphics as 20 years ago Mario, what?  Red Dead Redemption is something that has never been done before, what?  The IGN reviewer found SMG to be a 10/10 for what it is, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a better game than Red Dead Redemption, it just happens to be the best Wii platformer possible in the reviewer's mind.  At least that's how I take it.  Comparing RDR to SMG2 is apples to oranges it makes no sense to do.  How can you compare a game that focuses heavily on story to a game that doesn't even make an attempt at having a story and instead focuses on challenging the player to complete levels?  You can't. "
